ok your an asshat troll, go away
Outstanding article, and a very good history lesson for all of us.
Viewing this illness thru academic lens still fails to account for urban racism and its ramification on education, recreation, employment and housing. Consider the mediaâs reluctance to publish the story, a few days ago, following Stering comments, where Democrat âNJ Councilwoman Has Her Own Alleged Racist Rant on Tapeâ in Belleville, NJ.
The point is that the West DOESNâT get won without the US Cavalry.

Not to mention the enormous socialist program of Federal crop subsidies that continue through delay. Or the fact that these same people profit handsomely from another socialist program for subsidizing these agricultural, âruggedly independent,â Ayn Randian hypocritical takers: the Food Stamp program. Karl Marx is smiling. Or perhaps he is groaning about the massive hypocrisy that is the rabid right wingnutsâ blathering that emanates from the Koch Brothers, Tea Party, âmainstreamâ GOP (the wingnut philosophy has, indeed, become the âcenteristâ viewpoint of the GOP) about the ârugged individualistâ myth that this group of people cling to. And that Fox News, et al pander to in the name of the Almighty Dollar.
You didnât read the article, did you?
Huh? Talk about wandering of the subject at hand.
Does yokel ass-hattery have a dialect, or is it just a series of grunts and flying fingers?
It is interesting to note that in the aftermath of this Bundy media event, the citizens of the aptly named town of Bunkerville, NV have been assaulted by the Bundy defenders. These âdefenders of libertyâ have been stopping local people from Bunkerville asking for proof of residency. This is the vigilante ideal of these outside groups, ignoring laws and intimidating average local citizens. THIS is the America they want. Not the rule of law but the rule of intimidation by force. In the real world, this is totalitarianism.
Itâs not just the Homestead Acts that gave away large swaths of land. During the Teddy Roosevelt Administration, hundreds of thousands of acres of western forested lands were given away to railroad companies to âencourageâ them to build railroads, those railroad companies became the timber companies still in operation today; and the rest became Forest Service lands. Lands suitable for farming or grazing were generally excluded from this give away. (Read Stewart Udallâs: Quiet Crisis) Even so, grazing is allowed on Forest Service land, to the detriment of the forest ecosystem and riparian areas. Today, the FS and BLM charge $1.35/AUM (AUM = 1 cow and 1 calf for 1 month). The rate for grazing on private lands in Western states is between $7.00 and $27.00 per AUM. (http://www.blm.gov/wo/st/en/info/regulations/Instruction_Memos_and_Bulletins/national_instruction/2014/IM_2014-061.html) The $1.35 the federal agencies receive does not nearly cover the costs of administering the program or protecting sensitive areas from the degradation cause by grazing, the taxpayers pay for those costs as well. Corporate welfare from its inception.
*From the foldings of its robe, it brought two children; wretched, abject, frightful, hideous, miserable. They knelt down at its feet, and clung upon the outside of its garment.
Oh, Man! look here. Look, look, down here!'' exclaimed the Ghost. They were a boy and girl. Yellow, meagre, ragged, scowling, wolfish; but prostrate, too, in their humility. Where graceful youth should have filled their features out, and touched them with its freshest tints, a stale and shrivelled hand, like that of age, had pinched, and twisted them, and pulled them into shreds. Where angels might have sat enthroned, devils lurked, and glared out menacing. No change, no degradation, no perversion of humanity, in any grade, through all the mysteries of wonderful creation, has monsters half so horrible and dread. Scrooge started back, appalled. Having them shown to him in this way, he tried to say they were fine children, but the words choked themselves, rather than be parties to a lie of such enormous magnitude.
Spirit! are they yours?ââ Scrooge could say no more.
They are Man's,'' said the Spirit, looking down upon them.
And they cling to me, appealing from their fathers. This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased. Deny it!ââ cried the Spirit, stretching out its hand towards the city. ``Slander those who tell it ye! Admit it for your factious purposes, and make it worse! And bide the end!ââ

Yeah, because private companies like Time Warner do such an amazing job of providing inexpensive goods and services. I say that as I contemplate whether or not to have them come out and replace my DVR box for the third time in 1.5 years or buy a TiVo.
Good article, but Loveâs Laborâs Lost. This will not be read by anybody who doesnât already agree with it.
I guess so if you ignored the subject at hand so long as not to recognize the reality of racism. Bundy is not new, nor is the illness restricted to Western idiots, Southern GOP, Urban Democrats or sports teams. I thought the example in NJ was a perfect juxtaposition off Bundy and Sterling. We pick and choose, huh?
Please point to me where in the article you think the subject at hand was Bundyâs racism?
Yeah! What should happen is that the rest of us should get together and decide what is best for our land, and WE should set something up! Maybe we send a few people to represent us in the discussion, so they could vote on whatâs best, and set up a system to implement itâŚ
âŚthing is, âthe governmentâ and âthe rest of usâ happen to be the same thing.
Time to get a court order freezing his assets until he pays up in full, including penalties and interest. Cliven Bundy may not recognize the authority of the federal courts, but his bank surely will.
But the Bundy âranchâ, actually a melon farm, wasnât even in the family until 1948 according to the Las Vegas newspaper that bothered to do just a scintilla of investigative journalism. Bundyâs parent purchased the 160 acres then and didnât start leasing federal grazing land until 1954. His claims to almost aboriginal rights to the land are preposterous but that part of the story is getting no play outside the one Nevada newspaper.
Over twenty years and just court orders? I have researched this and I can find only a few legal actions taken by the BLM. The BLM could have started rounding up the cattle that are grazing illegally years and years ago. They could have also cut off his access to this area. To wait over twenty years to take action plays right into Bundyâs âI am the victimâ defense.
