Discussion:

The ignorance just astounds. Doesn’t matter how many times we see this type of crap, it still is astounding how some people can be so uneducated.

I thought about that. While you may be right, it also may have been very carefully chosen wording depending on the state’s laws. John Oliver did a great piece on sex ed a few weeks ago showing how different each state is.

It is interesting because the language is “the district is in support of promoting abstinence as the most effective.”

So they are not quite making the claim that this is scientifically or statistically accurate that abstinence is the most effective, but just that they are “in support of promoting”.

Of course all these people have the wrong argument as abstinence actually leads to more abortions:

The problem is that “educated decisions” require education and these folks are against that.

This, exactly. I think it started with Gingrich and the focus-group-tested language. Also when the so-called Moral Majority stopped being “the Silent Majority” and started squawking louder and louder.

they’re not all old. Some are just stupid.

This is Conservatism, "if you don’t do things “WE” preach, leave, because we don’t “believe” in democracy, only OUR beliefs.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I miss John Oliver.

Absolutely agree. And…

If people can’t have sex when they want to, which sanctimonious politician will set the rules?

Well Maria M is wrong on so many fronts in trying to come across as somewhat of a biologically versed expert on what abortion is and isn’t. There is no medial proof that life beings at conception and having multiple partners may increase the risk that one may contract an STD, it does not mean, however, that you will get multiple STDs It is also not true that a separate distinct human being is killed during an abortion. That distinction can only be made depending on what trimester the procedure is preformed in and that would only be likely in late term abortion when the fetus is full formed.
