Discussion:

I really don’t get this fascination with gold as a means of financial “protection” against some delusional scary future event. If things got as bad as these tin foil hat wearers think, and the dollar is not worth anything, then who is going to buy their gold, and with what?

When are we just going to kick Texass out of the Union and let Mexico annex the territory? I’ve had enough of their BS…

How ironic that the only Texas gold under discussion is actually being held by a London based bank that has been found criminally culpable in fixing interest rates (HSBC).

What’s the point of being wealthy if there is nothing to buy because all the companies that make stuff go out of business because no one but the wealthy can afford their products? And how fun is it to drive a million dollar car on top of crappy roads? Is the view from their yacht spoiled from the pollution in the water after they get rid of the EPA? For being wealthy, many of these people aren’t very smart and don’t think through the repercussions of their ideology.

Don’t forget the important point that the state of Texas doesn’t actually own any gold. The University trust fund isn’t subject to this, I don’t believe. Also, even that trust fund gold is just in a private bank vault in NY (which they pay 10x more for than if they had that gold at the Fed). So, yeah, these “fiscally conservative” republicans are just burning taxpayer money to make a (bogus) political point.

And the Texas Tea Party Militia is, By Gawwwwd’, on its way to seize that gold…by any means necessary.

Bingo. “You can’t take it with you.” What the fuck do they care what happens in the long term if they can live a life of perfect aristocracy before dying and leaving behind a shitshow for everyone else?

The GOP base is SO bone stupid that they think that “paper” currency has no value other than what people assign to it.

But gold (and any other metal) also has no value other than what we assign to it. Look at the godd*mn spot market for metals. Value for whatever commodity is whatever we decide on any given day. Tulips, paper money, metals, oil, etc. And let’s be real honest - if we end up staring at armageddon, gold will be useless. Food and water will be priceless.

So Texas wants to become the host to drug dealers, human traffikers and others who want to shield their money from the Feds…nice move Abbott!

It’s a Ponzi scheme Texas style. When the gold “disappears” they’ll want the rest of the country to bail them out.

States cannot nullify federal law you dumb-shits (in Texas.)
1934 Federal Gold Reserve Act.
Only the US Treasury Dept. can hold gold reserves (i.e. gold backing money supplies) in the USA.

What’s next? Texas Bucks? Backed by a piddly $1 Billion in FLOATING gold? With a picture of George W. Bush on them?
morons…

FYI

It cannot be denied that Fascism and similar movements aiming at the establishment of dictatorships are full of the best intentions and that their intervention has, for the moment, saved European civilization. The merit that Fascism has thereby won for itself will live on eternally in history.

Wonder what Ludwig would have thought of ‘Green Egg & Ham’?
I’m going to toss another gold theft movie on the pile, ‘Tower Heist’ with Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy…
