Wish the posting was done everywhere…

It’s not the volume, it’s the bi-polar swings in the tone over the course of the day that kill me. One minute, they’re triumphantly anticipating the defeat of Mitch McConnell and our imminent victory in half a dozen states and the next they’re screaming in panic over some new infusion of cash from right wing billionaires and telling us that can’t compete in the same states they told us we were on the verge of winning an hour ago.

And I’m like, FFS, guys, I get that the DNC, OFA, DSCC, the DCCC, and the 502©(x)'s can’t coordinate messaging, but you can get guys emails when I do and take into account how silly twenty or thirty of them will look in a string on someone’s smartphone inbox.

The fact is that it is not difficult to discern whether a registered voter did or did not vote in any particular election. Get used to the fact you are being watched by many eyes.

When we and the “coalition of the willing” mandated elections in Iraq and Afghanistan, better than 90% of eligible voters turned out. In the typical US election, less than 60% turn out, even in presidential years.

Also in those 3rd-world countries, the vote count takes longer than the few hours required here to inform American Media to put out the word on who the winner was. How about a FULL count before any media are told a vote count? FYI, in New York City for the 2012 election, the final count including ALL ballots was reported in April 2013 - a lag reminiscent of George Washington’s times.

Secret ballot. But whether someone votes, and what their party affiliation is, are public information.

We got something similar in Massachusetts.

Perhaps the most radicalizing event of my life was meeting the NGO and academic types who supposedly were working for election integrity. Far more scummy than typical pols, and far more self-satisfied.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion. I still say it’s nobody else’s goddamn business.

And may I add that your snide, condescending screed simply reinforced my original opinion.

There’s a whole body of psychological literature dedicated to the phenomenon in which the presentation of data that contradicts one’s beliefs tends to reinforce the belief.

But the fact remains that your state or county board of election likely has a website that will spit out your entire voting history if you enter your name and street address. Mine does, at any rate. And the day that isn’t true is the day elections truly are stolen from us.
