Discussion: Zinke Likens His Environmental Rollbacks To Teddy Roosevelt's Legacy

Always a great idea to look back more than 100 years to set environmental policy.

Zinke Likens His Environmental Rollbacks To Teddy Roosevelt’s Legacy

Complete, unadulterated bullshit.

Yeah, sure. TR’s legacy. If TR had taken a gigantic shit in the middle of Yellowstone, wiped his ass with his legacy and thrown it into Old Faithful along with every tree in the park and the corpses of every last animal.

Here’s the actual thing he’s quoting. Most of the words don’t seem to have gotten past his corporate Jesus wingnut confirmation bias filter. TR wasn’t saying “development”=“conservation.” He was saying conservation applies as much to how we develop as to wilderness preservation. He was arguing against the rape, pillage, plunder, poison, and run development strategies 19th century business (infliction of externalities we call it now).

“Conservation means development as much as it does protection. I recognize the right and duty of this generation to develop and use the natural resources of our land but I do not recognize the right to waste them, or to rob, by wasteful use, the generations that come after us… Moreover, I believe that the natural resources must be used for the benefit of all our people, and not monopolized for the benefit of the few… Of all the questions which can come before this nation, short of the actual preservation of its existence in a great war, there is none which compares in importance with the great central task of leaving this land even a better land for our descendants than it is for us, and training them into a better race to inhabit the land and pass it on. Conservation is a great moral issue, for it involves the patriotic duty of insuring the safety and continuance of the nation.”

Actually, the only thing you’ll be remembered for is this:

What a lying sack of shit. Now he has to soil TR’s legacy.
TR, the last great Republican President spits on you, asshole.

So a 21st Century interior secretary thinks it’s great living up to the technology of a early 20th Century president?

Yes indeed. Just like Roosevelt ensured that there would be abundant untouched portions of nature preserved as parks in their natural state for the benefit of many generations to come, Zinke insures future generations of Americans will have unfettered access to mercury and lead poisoning, asthma, cancer and other maladies children and adults in this country enjoy today. Nice job, Zinke. Ya deusche.

Well, maybe Lizzie Borden at least.

Best science. He had the fucking nerve to claim that the Trump Administration, any part of it, has any respect for science.

He means The Douchebag Teddy Roosevelt of Ryan Zinke’s Imagination.

Yes, and Al Capone said he was just a misunderstood entertainer.
