Discussion: Zinke Claims He Exempted Florida From Drilling Plan Due To 'Coastal Currents'

He stayed at a Holiday Inn Express once. Now he only sleeps on the private jets of his industry exec pals.

Yep…he’s really stepped in it now, if he wants to make this a scientific fight. I can’t see how this doesn’t end up in court and Florida is not unique in regard to currents bringing waste to shore. As mentioned above…Deepwater Horizon proves that already.

Tell that to Downeast Maine which has the some of the biggest tidal changes in the world. Asshole.

ā€œThe coastal currents GOP’s 2018 Senate chances are different, the layout of where the geology razor-thin 51 to 49 majority is,ā€ he said.

Fixed.

I’m not expert on coastal currents
Don’t have to be just google oil spills
Pics every where on oil on the shores from Alaska to California to North and South Carolina ect.

ā€œThe official who runs the Interior agency that manages offshore drilling told a House committee on Friday that Zinke’s announcement exempting Florida was ā€˜not a formal action.ā€™ā€

Is this them trying to force the baby to be born and starve it too? Where as long as they pretend it’s not a formal action Congress can’t review or change it?

I’m pretty sure that can be mitigated by a big, beautiful wall.

Well trump is demanding a wall be built to protect his Scottish golf course from the rising sea caused by oil pumping/burning. Oh and he is objecting to those ā€œunsightlyā€ wind towers offshore also too.

as a geologist/hydrogeologist I can expertly say that Zinke is full of shit

is there no geology or currents along any of the other coastal states in the union?

clearly not a scientist, rocket or otherwise

Get him before a congressional committee and ask him how it is that they can drill for oil in the North Sea. Oh, and how is it that we really need offshore oil these days?

ā€œIt’s the motion of the ocean!ā€, said Super Science-y Zinke.

The Interior secretary’s explanation for the exemption differs from his initial comments about the decision. In his statement earlier in January explaining the exemption, he said that Florida’s ā€œcoasts are heavily reliant on tourism as an economic driver,ā€ but he did not mention anything about ā€œcurrentsā€ or ā€œgeology.ā€

Give the guy some credit. He’s obviously been boning up on the topic so that he can make scientifically informed policy choices. I mean, he practically sounds like a Professor of Oceanography now: ā€œThe coastal currents are different, the layout of where the geology is.ā€

Wow. Mind blown.

ā€œā€¦and, BTW, if we have a nuclear war with North Korea, El Nino will prevent any lethal radiation from reaching the Red States, which is great news for the booming tourism industry in Buttlick, Mississippi!ā€, Zinke continued.

I rather imagine that should Governor Voldemort lose his bid for the Senate that Mr. Zinke will gladly revisit his decision.

Talking more about this (like a total idiot) is not going to help him. What a load of garbage. I hope he gets eaten alive by the other states (their politicians and their constituents). I can’t imagine anyone putting up with this crap.

And on this one it’s not just the environmentalists… it’s all those big and small communities dependent on tourism.

ā€œThe coastal currents are different, the layout of where the geology is,ā€ he said.

That guy is full of shit. California is the main producer of Currants. They are grown on our northern coast and in the San Francisco Bay area (also coast). Florida is a shithole state where it’s too hot to have Currants as a mass crop.

Save our Currants. We also have geology too. Many -ologies in California. Save our -ologies.

I thought geology was everywhere. I never thought that there was, say, geology in this part of the state, but not that part.

Also, there is the little matter if the subduction zone on the West Coast and of course the San Andreas fault that is close to the Pacific Coastline. Zinke maybe forgetting the tsunami warning that happened yesterday along the WA coast. And of course the tsunami that wreaked havoc in Crescent City CA after the Alaska earthquake in the mid 60’s. Ya, but let’s talk about those coastal currents that happen along the Florida coast near Maralago. Pfft.
