Discussion: Yuuuge Conservative Issues Are Missing From Donald Trump’s RNC Speech

Love Josh’s 11:17 remark on his running blog:

“11:17 PM: Where was he radicalized?”

Spent so much time doing the plagarism check that he forgot to actually time this out. He is now on the list of thank-yous. What a pathetic and ridiculous speech. Now, he is finally getting to some … oh, back to whining again. Geez, I thought the idea was to inspire, not beat about the head and shoulders.

This whole speech just felt like surface-level conservative internet concerns du jour. Like a whole checklist of “what’s crazy Republican uncle Bob bitching about on Twitter this week?” all wrapped up in one long speech. The media will claim this a success by virtue of Trump not killing a puppy on stage or dropping the N-bomb, but I think with any scrutiny this just comes across as Trump’s usual opportunistic rhetoric.

Longest acceptance speech ever, summarized by Marc Shields as “it’s always darkest before it goes completely black”. Dreadful stuff. Relentless negativism. I cannot imagine that this will drive the numbers above HRC’s. Trump is going to be amazed in Nov.

“it’s always darkest before it goes completely black” Excellent line.

Well, there’s Trump’s general-election pivot they’ve all been talking about . . . a full 360 degrees.

BTW, anyone notice the ended Trump’s speech by blasting “All Right Now” by Bad Company. A song about a guy who sweet talks a woman so he can screw her.

Of course, Shields plagarized it from Mao Tse-Tsung.

It finally hit me who Trump sounds like with all the shouting and that little gargle in his throat on the open vowels (“Kaaaaansas”)—Chris Berman! (“He…could…go…all…the…way.”)

Followed by “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” acknowledging either the party’s dissatisfaction with the candidate or that they’re rather likely to lose.

That was the most flaccid, low-energy acceptance speech ever. He kept having to model clapping to a crowd that forgot how.

The air was going out of the balloon. The relentless negative vibe just saps energy. People want something to look up to and to look forward to. Trump did not give them that.

The pivot that the MSM has been looking for.

And it was more rambling than even Trump’s impromptu speeches, and that’s saying something. His speechwriters might want to try using an outline next time.

This was all about his base. They are terrified need the anger to be there. Just hopefully there aren’t enough in November.

“I alone can fix it”

Welp, I guess Congress is fired…they don’t do anything anyway. Who needs 'em. BUT Trump Loves him some Constitution don’t forget.
Just another every day conundrum for trump and the GOP

According to Twitter, this is the most retweeted tweet during the speech. Well done, Sir.

And now we come to the wall the GOPers think does not exist. I could post McCain standing next to a completed wall and blabbering “just build it” but this image works pretty well too. The image is near Nogales, Arizona

You can see it isn’t that cheap of a wall.
