Discussion: Your Obamacare Repeal Talking Points Debunker

O I read one tweet from a guy begging Trump not to get rid of the ACA or Medicaid because he is living on $789 a month of government money.

I hope he loses his first.

It is starting to look as if repeal of Obamacare is a poison pill with a sweet sugar coating for the republicans. The desperately want to taste the pill, but don’t want to get sick or die from it later.

The odds are that they will get a bad result if – no democrat in Congress cooperates with them. We’d be fools to let these guys pass repeal off as “bipartisan”. This is certainly no insight to anyone, and we need to keep pressing the issue so there’s no doubt we’re rank and file democrats stand…

I shop and purchase health insurance for a small business. This is HC exchange coverage for business. We have gained better employee coverage at decreased costs every year since ACA was implemented. I have a number of know-nothing wingnuts who argue that they can / could purchase better coverage for less before ACA: So I checked, they can not. Their previous coverage had exclusions for pre-existing conditions and life-time limits (some as low as $100,000. Their provider networks were small. They had shitty coverage, but all they pay attention to is the premium price. Keep that in mind the next time some ignoramus starts talking health care policy.

Not to mention got SCOTUS to allow states the right to refuse the Medicaid expansion, which a few states are still holding out on.

Ryan always lies about Medicare because it’s his ultimate target to destroy. Obamacare is chicken feed compared to Medicare.

Correct, and studies indicate that states that refused to expand Medicaid – I think there are 19 of them - are experiencing healthcare costs 7 to 10 percent higher than states that did expand Medicaid.

Drew Altman is president and chief executive of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation. He wrote this editorial and explains that people who have Ocare are satisfied with it for the most part, and are now fearful their coverage will be shredded. You call those people trump voters.

@unit44 Current enrollees really only want lower prices and will do anything to get it, even vote for the party and the candidate who promise to abolish that coverage.

This is getting better way faster than I thought it would - his nonexistent popular mandate is shrinking further.

It gets little enough, he goes up against Congress enough, maybe just maybe…we can get the Monster out of there. He does not belong anywhere in our government.

Anyone who shouts “MANDATE!” as much as trumpet doesn’t have one. It cannot be self declared. Dubya did it too. Obama may have been the only president of our generation who may have had one but didn’t get to carry it out because vile Rs and Kochs got in the way.

yeah it’s been one long ratwing coup against us and the Democrats need to deconstruct how the GOP has done it and get us out of here.

If they aren’t smart enough to figure it out, they need to find someone who is. None of this was happenstance insofar as power goes.

There was no peaceful transfer of power to Obama in '09. It was never transferred and that’s one reason he’s being so polite and reasonable but the goddamn high road is just going to kill all of the rest of us by letting that Monster take over.

Ugh! This seems so ridiculous that one keeps thinking there is a way out. And everyone is convinced there is no way and I know enough about laws and rules to know there is always a way.

You left off that it it came from Republicans it is probably 99% false.

The lead headline at every news outlet today should be: “They Have No Plan.”

The Mandate that all must purchase healthcare insurance was a conservative requirement. The notion private insurers must profit on the care of sick people was a Republican article of faith. So let’s just dispense with the nonsense about the ACA not being bipartisan in concept. The problem is healthcare reform was enacted and named after a Black Democrat and illustrates that government can be an agent for progressive change.

Republicans are pushing a plan to not even bother moving out of your parents’ house, because between their health problems and yours, you won’t even get your own mortgage paid off before you have to move back in.

Those are Republican family values.

The major news organizations will not do it. They disgraced themselves with their witch hunt coverage of the Clinton campaign. Why does anyone think they’ll do better now?

YOu may have to try several times before you get through.

Done, and thanks for the tip. But, man, you shoulda warned us about the nauseating “Republicans are bold” gibberish we gotta listen to. Eww!

I think that the Democrats should be arguing that ACA is “pro-life” since it provides life saving healthcare to millions, and that you cannot argue you are “pro-life” and seek to repeal it

Time to show that for R’s words are just words; for the rest of us, words matter
