I went to grad school in the 90s with someone from North Carolina. In those days, it was still the sane Carolina and everyone there made fun of and was embarrassed by SC. It’s hard to see much difference between the two anymore, which is weird given how much finance and technology business is based now in Charlotte and Raleigh - Durham.

Try this: Go there. A school experience 1/4 century ago with one person from a state of 10 million is a weak base for a modern judgement. NC as well as SC are beautiful places. You’ll be treated well there and look as you must you’ll not find it full of cretins and slugs. Every state has representatives that are whacked out GOP’ers. No one is free of them. Yours too. But you can’t judge a states people by the small population of them you hear of in the media. The politicians and the crooks. Your state has both and probably as many as NC.
If the soup is too salty you don’t add more salt. If you don’t like the current state of affairs in US politics don’t practice the same lame judgements that got us to it.
