Discussion: Yellow Vest Anger Burns In Paris, Fueled By France's Notre Dame Fire Response

It seems to me that this is a challenge for the 2020 hopefuls here, solving the problem of economic insecurity in an age where the only constant is change and upheaval. I don’t think any Presidential candidate at any time has attempted to explain, or propose realistic solutions to, the downsides of globalization. I recall Herbert Hoover in the aftermath of WW1, 1919, noting that insecurity and want render people susceptible to Bolshevism and other extreme ideologies. We’re seeing that play out in real time a century later, too.

I’m more impressed with the French people every day. Kudos for keeping this protest going for so long and showing what a Neoliberal fraud Macron really is.

Putin is behind the yellow vests.

Please tell me this is sarcasm.

No it’s not.

Well it should be.

“
Not a single leading party enjoys close to majority support, according to opinion polls. And yet a poll conducted just after last Saturday’s riots in Paris showed that, while most disagreed with the use of violence, seven in 10 still backed the gilets jaunes movement as a whole. Support closely tracks class lines. According to a separate study released November 28, about four-fifths of working-class respondents—those defined as blue-collar and service-sector workers in France’s detailed socio-professional classification system—expressed sympathy or support for the movement. Just 56 percent of managers and white-collar professionals felt the same.”

Putin got 7 out of 10 people to support the Yellow Vest movement? Wow, he’s AMAZING!

Y’all are falling for another Putin backed “populist” message. I don’t care for Macron, but I don’t want to see him replaced with a LePen and that is the road they are on - same road Italy went down.

Can you tell me how Putin managed to convince 7 out of 10 people in France to support the Yellow Vest Movement?
If you can’t answer that, you might want to re-think your theory.

Maybe you would like to take a stab at how Putin, and his propaganda farms, managed to target specific states to get Trump the EC count he needed to (s)quash the 3M popular vote?
We’re in a war of words and images, they’re coming in steady and fast. It’s not hard to for an outside agent to find the sore spots in another country’s populace, and use it as a weapon. I don’t think anyone here is claiming that the Yellow Vest crowd weren’t angry or shouldn’t be angry, but by their methods of channeling their anger.

The Gilets Jaunes mouvement does not have 70% support.
It that your view from Saint-Petersbourg?

From France: 55% wish for the end of this stupidity

55 % des Français souhaitent que le mouvement des Gilets jaunes s’arrĂȘte, la popularitĂ© de Macron en hausse

C’est mon opinion informĂ©e avec des rĂ©troactions de plusieurs amis français.

Difference is the new ‘‘Bolsheviks’’ are now aligned with if not in control of the president and his party.

Their methods are pretty standard protest fare if viewed against similar events in the past. But the methods of expressing their anger have nothing to do with Putin. IMHO, Americans looks pretty crazy to me when they start blaming everything under the sun on Putin, with absolutely no evidence to back up their reasoning It’s not a healthy or logical reaction.

TPM isn’t exactly shy about attributing things to Russia - why would there be no mention of Russia in this article if he was responsible?

No, those are the facts stated in the article I linked to. Did you not read it?

TPM. I came for the discussion, but stayed for the endless McCarthyism.

Up? You sure about that?

“Only 27% of French people are satisfied with the action of Emmanuel Macron, a figure down 5% compared to March, and which has never been so low since the election of the President of the Republic, according to a poll released this Saturday, April 20th”

Must be Putin editing the news?

How come I only meet ‘‘Greens for Trump’’ on the web? Where are they in the public space (other than Jillena Steinova of course)?

Unfading Green is a type of Vermont slate. My name has nothing to do with the Green Party. Hope that helps.

Yes, the “revolutionary,” er, reactionary fervor is strong on that side.

They do realize that tourists and their cash come to Paris to see Notre Dame?

The point is that the oligarch class can cough up a billion dollars in a couple of days without breaking a sweat.

While the average person

It’s about the massively unfair tax structures and distribution of wealth that we have, wherein the wealth creators (i.e.the workers who produce and sell the products and services) have an ever-smaller portion of the pie vs. the oligarchs who sit around board tables and on their second yacht.
