Discussion for article #240890
As manager of the New York Mets, Yogi said of the 1973 pennant race:
“It ain’t over 'til it’s over.”
A national treasure.

(Couldn’t resist this morning-- reading through so many humorous Yogi-isms…)
After having received a check for $25.00 made out to “Bearer” from Jack Buck
in payment for having appeared on Jack Buck’s radio show, Yogi complained,
“How long have you known me and you still can’t spell my name?”

Yogi would have predicted his death, but “Predictions are hard, especially about the future.”
Yogi would be in heaven, but, “No one goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.”
“Always go to other people’s funerals, otherwise they won’t come to yours.”
RIP.
A true great. One of the few people, other than George Washington, whose name every American knows. Think of him whenever you say “it’s déjà vu all over again”.
On type of being quite a character and class act, 3 MVP’s is the most anyone has won. Several other players have done it, but no one has 4. Amazing accomplishment from a guy the Cardinals blew off.
Just saw a great post elsewhere that would be a perfect Yogi-ism.
“Yogi Berra traded to the Angels 9-22-2015”
Was just about to post this one, it’s absolutely my favorite Yogi Berra-ism.
Don’t worry, Yogi, they’ll all be going to your’s.
RIP
I once watched a biopic about Yogi. Back then, ballplayers didn’t make that much, so many worked off-season jobs. The Yankees fixed Yogi up with one as a salesman with a car dealer who was a big fan. I could just imagine buying a car from Yogi.
Among his boyhood friends was Joe Garagiola, who went on to a career as a major league player and broadcaster. In rejecting Berra at the 1943 tryout, the Cardinals signed Garagiola, another catcher, instead.

When Joe Garagiola was inducted to the Hall of Fame as a broadcaster, he talked about growing up with Berra. He said (close paraphrase), "usually when you get to the Major League, you’re the best ball player in your town, or at least in your high school. Hell, I wasn’t the best ball player on my block!"
RIP, Yogi.
Yes, that place obviously produces people with personality and a good sense of humor…
Garagiola was a character too. You may already know this, but Fred Willard did a great Garagiola impersonation in Best In Show.
God I love baseball. Being from NY, I had the Yankees and the Mets. I watched a lot as a kid because my older brother who played stickball up the street loved it.
When playing games with my kids I was always saying, It ain’t over till it’s over.
I’d like to think he and Stan Musial are taking a few swings and cracking jokes now…
My all-time favorite Yankee. R.I.P., Yogi, and thanks for your life.
