Discussion: WV House Impeaches Entire State Supreme Court Over Spending Scandal

In the San Francisco Bay Area, spending $111,000 on office renovations will get you drapes, paint and a new desk.

When you impeach judges because they ordered new desks and curtains, you are begging journalists and political opponents to go over your spending with a fine-toothed comb. Good luck with that!

Ya. Doesn’t seem overly excessive, does it? There’s more to this story than is immediately apparent.

Here , I thought Kentucky government was bad, but by god West Virginia has us beat.

There is some (probable) suggestion that Loughry’s departure would have left their SC in the control of Democrats, which, of course, Republicans just couldn’t abide, so they decided the best way to handle it would be to…get rid of everybody! :-/

As in all impeachments, political considerations override ethical and legal ones. The Republicans simply see a chance to appoint a fully Republican court

Forget about it, Jake. It’s Charleston.

Excessive spending by public officials seems like a real “trumped-up” charge.

Justice Robin Davis was impeached for $500,000 in office renovations.

Good lord! That makes you wonder how much those yahoos spent buying their own homes! That’s almost 10X what i paid for my house. But then again, i don’t have a single gold toilet.

A public coup

The trial in the senate will be interesting. Do they have the votes on a party line?

Is this the real story. Were they really impeached over office furniture or were they impeached for some other more political reason. I am sorry, but this sounds like a power grab.

Almost Heaven

Yep. Clear out the entire WV Supreme Court, so that it can be…refurbished…with bright, shiny, new…Republicans.

What were the office renovations? If it was to upgrade for technology, energy efficiency, safety or paint peeling off the walls or the like I get it, but I can also see getting annoyed over other stuff. In many counties, including mine, state trial judges pay for their own furniture, and I believe the same is true in most federal district courts. I put no trust in the good faith of West Virginia Republicans, but the story lacks details that would make it easier to judge what is going on.

Exactly. Otherwise, Zinke, Pruitt, Carson, hell…even Trump himself would have been impeached long ago.

I wonder if this overreach can reach the supreme court of the good ole USA
I know 4 with 1 more of them, just because it would do a great service to the country.

Another Republican coup in plain sight.

There are a lot of winners in this mess.

They all live outside WV.
