Discussion: Women Involved At All Levels Of Kavanaugh Scandal Receiving Threats

“Calls have included threats of bodily and sexual harm against staff.

Seriously? They’re threatening rape against women who are challenging a nominee who is accused of sexual assault? Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

That’s the Trump and Republican MO
Muddy the water with so many lies the truth can not be seen

This wasn’t a mistake of the form “Oh, golly, I leaned on that tree and it fell over and crushed a car.” This was a mistake of the form “I really should have worn gloves when I forged my enemy’s name on the ransom note.”

I wonder if the friend, a middle school teacher in Georgia, was asked to take the rap.

Sure. A middle school teacher accused of attempted rape. What could go wrong?

Back in Newt’s HayDay his MO and oft encouraged GOP strategy is throw enough muck at the wall (even if it is all false) and sooner or later something will stick (in the public psyche.) In the Trump era it goes further. Sow enough confusion, blur the lines enough - and allies and those politically sympathetic will dismiss the initial issue as “who knows? who can tell? Thus it must not be true.”

I think this is what they were attempting to do. And it often works for Trump - so send the Hail Mary.

I bet they still think it was a great plan - except that part about giving a name to the doppelganger - which backfired so quickly Whelan deleted the tweet pretty fast.

I don’t think he’s deleted any of the tweets. But you’re right that it is a Gingrich-esque strategy.

For all we know threats to both sides are mostly coming from the Russians, who just want everyone here to hate and fear each other. As unpleasant or even legitimately terrifying as it may be to be on the receiving end of such threats, we should not through them allow ourselves to demonize either side. These are now, unfortunately, the new normal in America, but they need to be recognized as the noxious effluence of outlier scum which have been (unnecessarily) empowered by relatively recent developments of electronic media.

Good insight @heretofore - we need to remember one of the goals was to set us against each other. Seems that goal is being achieved.

Thinking of some of the stuff Kav wanted Clinton to be questioned on in the Ken Star days – this does seem nice and down and dirty from Kav.

Someone pointed out elsewhere that the detained immigrant girl that Kav wanted to block from getting an abortion had just turned 17 - the age he was at the time of the alleged assault.

Hope this story won’t just backfire – but will blow up in their faces and completely derail Kav nomination.

Completely off topic - but a ray of light. Cook has moved the Beto/Cruz race from Lean Republican to toss up!!! Yay Beto. They have a debate at some time this evening - don’t know when.

Maybe the Republican will allow one law enforcement officer to escort her from her undisclosed location to Washington DC - facing hazzards similar to the movie plot in - The Gauntlet - with Clint Eastwood & Sondra Locke

Somewhat OT but I wish we can all keep this in mind.
When a poster offers some apparently wrong headed perspective let us attempt to offer correction in a way that reafirms our common interests and deescalates conflict.
Thank you. We now return to the thread already in progress.

er: Beto vs Cruz - hope this is a continued momentum shift - that many many people are finally feeling the nausea of the Cruz cruise … he is such a smarmy disingenuous toad - and once someone truly recognizes what a foul human being he is - it essentially triggers an almost contagious visceral response - sort of like when some smell / see vomit - it causes them to have an involuntary reaction.

Beto is more of a breath of fresh air - and one that is more readily trusted … Cruz is so uncontrollably haughty and arrogant and condescending - even his supporters would have to concede that they have to overlook the snotty attitude … if the breath of fresh air really has momentum - it may blow some of the stink out of Texas.

This just brought to mind something I saw on the site of some music store (?) that was along the idea of “on this date in 1965” , I forget the exact year, but it was that auditions were held for positions in the Monkees. Among those applying were several now notable performers, (Steven Stills was one), and Charles Manson. That still rattles my brain.

My sister works at the University the Dr. Works at. She says those answering phones there are being traumatized as well. She has become the point person and is dealing with the big media. She described a message received and the school and as you can imagine it was very offensive.

What we have here is Toxic Patriarchy.
Men. You have to fight this fight, too. Especially you. Did all of you spend your teen years forcing (or trying to force) girls and women to have sex? Your gender is being maligned.
Like Masie Hirono says Shut up and step up.

He’s the judicial version of OJ. Out looking for the real sexual assaulter.

Turn us against each other? I hate those Republican pukes regardless of those dirty Russian parasites.

They need to be absolutely crushed and destroyed completely and I don’t really care how we do it. They’re evil people and need to pay.

A start would be releasing the names, phone numbers and email addresses of any of these right wing pukes threatening people. Home addresses too if that’s possible. You want to threaten people? Fine. Your neighbors should know who you are and where you are. F these un-American clowns.

What? Charles Manson applied to be one of the Monkees?? That is one of the more bizarre things I’ve ever heard.

Add: That was weird enough I had to look it up. It appears to be an urban legend (though Steven Stills did actually audition).

Forget The Room. The Gauntlet was the worst movie ever made. That interminable scene with the bus driving past all the cops shooting at it? Boooring.

Manson also had ties to Doris Day’s son Terry Melcher who was a record producer.
After the Manson trials some people would quip “They should have just given him a recording contract”
