Well, we weren’t hearing ANY of these allegations before, so even white noise is better than no noise.
And the noise that this is not acceptable behavior any more is a sign of how things can start to change. Women didn’t speak out about these incidents because they rightly feared that they wouldn’t be believed and that speaking out would cause more problems for them than it would solve. But thanks to women speaking out, now we’re seeing just how pervasive this kind of behavior is. We live in an era when it seems like shame wouldn’t exist any more, but it appears that there is some shame for gropers. I say let’s keep the white noise up and keep on shaming those who deserve it.

I keep wondering if “masculinity”, as a social concept,has become an anachronism in modern societies defined by high levels of technology. It sounds weird, but then, I am.

It would be hard to know what to do if you were a parent in that situation with a “famous” person. Hopefully all these women coming out will make it easier for it to be addressed the moment it happens and maybe eventually help it to go away with this BS all together.

I think I agree with you, but there is something else going on, which is the continuing erosion of any private space, or private acts.
This happens in two ways. The first, obvious one is that technology allows more acts to be recorded. Equally important, when it comes to the cases of Weinstein and Bush, is the quick, widespread dissemination of charges, giving people who might have been timid in a previous age the courage to speak up.

I can definitely see an argument that social and cultural norms were in the past more heavily influenced by learned behaviors within your immediate surroundings, and while that is still true, there’s much more ability through technology to buck those trends or select different cultural concepts. Whether that’s through exposure to other ideas or from counter culture groups forming, using tech, without the influence of judgmental eyes.

I don’t get very worked up about Joe, because he’s a joke and buffoon who won’t get any traction for the nomination… unless he becomes a Republican?
