Once again, why is this news? Because the American public eats it up for some odd reason. I say it is odd because it is antithetical to our entire way of life and society. The idea of being “royal” is that a supernatural being endowed you with the “right” to rule. That kind of bullshit is one of the reasons we wanted independence.

But there has to be something more here, because TPM (and every other news source in the US) doesn’t plaster photos of every Middle Eastern, African, Eastern European, etc. prince or princess that is born. Clearly America’s love affair with the the British royalty is because they are good looking, affluent, they speak our language, and perhaps also, because they are white.

It’s sad that 240 years have gone by and we have seemingly come full circle to envy the entitled rich that we meant to break free from.

It’s story about two people who clearly love each other and have had a daughter out of that love. It has nothing to do with royal entitlement or a longing for monarchy. It’s a love story, plain and simple.
