The administration is always claiming to be “working diligently” while doing nothing. In this case, it may be much more evident that whatever “diligent” work they do, they’re going to have to have something actual to show for it.

Back in 2004, in the midst of the Iraq War, I was in Florida working early voting for Kerry. I was chatting with a former paratrooper. We agreed that if only people in the Pentagon could vote, Kerry would win 60:40. But a much higher percentage of our troops were in combat zones then.

It’s a pleasant thought to think of orange man getting lost in the mail. He’d just be shipped from post office to post office all over the world, gathering those stickers than used to appear on shipping trunks in old movies. What happened to him? No one seems to know. Sad.
Less obviously. the Post Office and the Veterans Administrations are the two most obviously Socialist activities in our Constitutional system. That’s why good conservatives love attacking both institutions. Ideological purity trumps ( pun intended) everything.

I really don’t get the rationale for doing this other than tRump has a beef with China, one country from what I read about the international rate, but there are 192 countries altogether that will be impacted by another short-sighted destruction of yet another system that’s already in place, and at best may need tweaking.
Isn’t there an open public comment period before this jerk does this as there often was during the Obama years when major changes were being considered? And how can he just rip up an agreement that’s been around for 145 years? Is this considered a treaty of some sort, or what? I thought the USPS worked independently of the White House and political interference. I don’t get how tRump and his cronies can unilaterally do this without Congress’s say so.
Gawd, I’m so sick of this man turning our democracy upside down and inside out for no good reason other than to upend the actual functioning of this country.

Oh, and an example of how trump has destroyed US soft power. We apparently can’t convince the rest of the world to do anything about one country that is abusing an international system to the detriment of everyone else.

If the UPU does not allow the U.S. to set its own rates
The whole point of the UPU is to keep countries from arbitrarily messing with international postal rates; I don’t think there’s even any sort of secondary smaller benefit. Letting us do that means they’d need to let everyone else do it too.

Somehow I imagine that overseas military would get their votes to count, since they tent to support Republicans.
While I think we should change the rate, leaving the system is foolhardy. Yet, using the word ‘fool’ in conjunction with the name ‘Trump’ is accurate, true and valid!
Still, I welcome any effort to stymie the military vote (sorry!) as it will hurt Trump’s vote totals for sure.
This is a win-win-win for him, anti-voting, anti-international agreement, anti-USPS
