Discussion: Wildfires In California Wine Country Destroy More Than 1,500 Structures

Accumulation of trees and brush from years of drought.

No word of condolence from Trump, I presume? Not even a word of thanks to the firefighters?

The warm wind near sundown was really unnerving. Not used to that in Oakland.

My son was supposed to go to a class retreat at a camp just east of Santa Rosa tomorrow. I feel sick for everyone up there but selfishly am thankful that he and his classmates avoided the trip rather than experience what sounds like harrowing evacuations.

Really windy last night. I can only imagine how difficult it was for emergency crews trying to contain those fires last night. Now, the smoke has settled over the area like a thin yellowish fog.

No word from Trump yet, that Iā€™ve heard, anyway. Trump will undoubtedly say something outrageous eventually. He canā€™t go too long without directing attention to himself somehow and, as I said, he really doesnā€™t like California these days.

The worst fires in Northern California tend to hit in October, when dry conditions prime them to spread fast and far as heavy winds, known as north winds or diablo winds, buffet the region.

Yes, we had heavy rainfall which thankfully filled up the reservoirs, but it hasnā€™t rained since at least December if not earlier.

Thatā€™s crazy.
I always remember the song, It never Rains in California, I heard it a lot during the third week of a 3 week rainstorm.

I know SoCal has gotten some rain, my daughter is in Oceanside and get the 411.

Where Iā€™m at now, we basically get SoCalā€™s weather 2 or 3 days later.

The elderly parents of a friend of mine live in Santa Rosa. Heā€™s flying out tomorrow to help them out. Scary stuff.

Very scary. I wish them well.

I have very dear friends in Sebastopol/Freestone (Barnett Valley Road area) who are on pins and needles right now. They havenā€™t been told to evacuate but have been told to be ready to. Entire neighborhoods in Santa Rosa have been obliterated. Looks like a nuclear blast. What a mess.

and the winds here last night were 50-75mph, humidity less than 5% and temps in the mid70s and all that rain made the undergrowth that much denserā€¦Perfect Firestorm conditionsā€¦winds have died but thereā€™s so many fires in so many places thereā€™s not enouh resources to fight them allā€¦

Been there done that. I tried walking after not being able to get any further in my truck to get my motorcycle out of my girlfriendā€™s garage in a 70 mph wind (Santa Ana) and had to lean into it to stand up and basically couldnā€™t fall forward.
Eventually the smoke, embers and heat kept us from getting it. It burned with her house.

We had one that lasted 3 weeks here in Colorado back in like '01 I think it was.

Pence was in Newport Beach (SoCal) fundraising today. I imagine if people donā€™t bow down to him in total adulation, heā€™ll get up and leave like he did at the football game yesterday.

No clapping, please. Heā€™ll imagine that weā€™re willing him to live.

Naw, heā€™ll do YUUUGE in Redding.

Apologies, I just lived in the Bay area for 11 years. Went through Loma Prieta and the Oakland firestorm. Iā€™m sorry that Iā€™m focused on hurricane relief today.
