Wild guess: It’s a Trump thing ?
Ya Think?
When you’re an expert at sleaze having refined it to an art form ,
You want to do the big show
Holtzman Vogel Josefiak Torchinsky PLLC, the staunchly Republican law firm who worked with Trump’s inaugural committee, did not respond to TPM’s request for comment on any guidance they provided on rejecting foreign funds.
Invoking the Right of Staunchly Republican Law Firms to remain silent about their advice consisting of a wink, a nod and “IOKIYAR” followed by high fives all around.
“I beg him all the time to go back to running the free world and let me focus on setting the tables.”
I would prefer he set tables.
It’s unimaginable to me that an entity could legitimately spend $26M on an inauguration when it didn’t exist six weeks earlier, and the fact that it’s tied to a Trump friend creates a major stench. Like manure, that stench indicates fertile ground for prosecutors.
Voters would easily pass a resolution to put an end to the inauguration circus and ban private money of any kind…but Mitch McConnell and the white Republican ruling class would obstruct the resolution and label such a ban a Democratic power grab and an attack on gun rights.
I dunno. I would love to see the “festivities” abandoned. But to paraphrase Inigo de Montoya, those words you keep saying (“voters” would “easily pass” ), I don’t think they mean what you think they mean.
When beavers see a stream flowing through a forest they always think the same thing: “great place for a dam!”
When Trumps see big piles of illicit-ish cash and perhaps the means to disregard the traces of pilfering it with new found power, they always think the same thing: “great place to line my pockets!”
I think it’s genetic. David Attenborough explains:
You win an election and then you have to raise ‘x’ number of millions of dollars in just a couple of months to ensure that you can pull off these enormous festivities.”
No worries, trump took care of everything with just 1 phone call, maybe 2
1 to putin and 1 to Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud .
promises made, promises kept.
It’s always nice to see a headline and know that the entire readership had exactly the same thoughts as they read it.
Unity. That’s what the GOP asked for in the SOTU, isn’t it?
Trump’s arrival to DC geometrically accelerated and normalized the barely hidden sleeze of federal access and self serving. And it’s not limited to the GOP. Hopefully, that “let the good times roll” mindset can be cuffed and reversed. That will require a tsumani of retirements, turn overs and exposures.
Donnie Deutch said it this morning
They SDNY are going to use RICO laws and lock up the whole Trump Criminal Clan
Exactly. Without even reading the article, I had formed my response. “Because Trump is so sleazy, even for Washington.”
So if I understand correctly, the Trump inauguration collected roughly twice the money that any previous administration had collected, while the actual events should have cost half as much? gosh, I wonder where that money could have gone?
This Trump clan of grifters, as well as the grifters that surround them who smell a delicious opportunity, are so obviously corrupt, that they leave no stone unturned. They would take bribes from the tip jar of the bathroom attendants if they could get their greedy fingers on them. Even for Washington, they are setting new standards for sleaze.
With that much money being tossed about, it was INEVITABLE that the low-life Grifters, Hangers-on, and petty crooks that Trump has surrounded himself with for DECADES could not help themselves and dove head-first into self-dealing, racketering, and foreign influence peddling.
It is in their NATURE to do these things, all the while stabbing each other in the back and frantically gathering up all they could carry.
What did you expect? Restraint and Honor? From NYC mooks?
I’ve said it before. Trump paid of his ‘university’ fraud bill of 25 million days before the inauguration. That fits rather nicely with the 26 million Melania’s unpaid adviser received.
“Self-Dealing, We Hardly Knew Ye”
It’s fairly simple. If you vote for a sleazy candidate, you get
- A sleazy president
- A sleazy inauguration
- A sleazy administration
and if not terminated by one means or another, you eventually get
- A sleazy country.

Drain the swamp? It’s now overflowing and polluting America and the world. It’s going to take years to clean up the mess.
