Start the countdown for tonight’s bombshell: Ten, nine, …
So, Esme, is this your way of telling us to expect news of Armageddon at 5:00 p.m. on Friday?
Just asking. That’s when my weekend usually starts. I need to know how i should make my plans for the Armageddon/weekend thingy.
There’s no such thing as the Friday afternoon news dump anymore. With Memorial Day this weekend, we might as well plan on something big hitting tomorrow evening.
But neither the Times nor the Post, nor presumably anyone else, is just shoving stuff out the door. They are aware that people may try to sabotage their credibilities. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/05/22/the-white-house-is-trying-to-dupe-the-new-york-times-with-phony-leaks/?hpid=hp_hp-more-top-stories_fix-nytimes-1135am%3Ahomepage%2Fstory
And that James Stewart piece in the Times about the Post that is sort of referred to is a good read. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/19/business/washington-post-digital-news.html
Esme, how about the small detail that many of the leaks are coming from White House staffers that would not dare to leak during the work day and wait until they are clear of any prying eyes that might cause them to be caught and fired?
“There really is no particular reason,”
“Really it’s just more coincidental.”
“But really we’re publishing them when they’re ready.”
"We post them when they’re ready.”
OMG have you ever seen such stonewalling? I think our intrepid reporter is on to something yuuge. Make them crack like egg Esme!
It’s nice to see that we’re all on a first-name basis with our crack TPM reporter.
Anyone that espouses this defeatist “the Republic is dead” attitude simply doesn’t appreciate the nation-saving work being done by the US Fourth Estate. Bravo to the Times, Post, and so many others (like TPM) - this is what real journalism looks like. Keep it up!
Most reporters sleep at night and work during the day. Reporting and writing a story takes time. Hence, more stories are finished and submitted toward the end of the day than at the beginning.
Any more questions?
Whatever the reason our democracy is the winner.
What if you’re the NYT SE Asia correspondent? Daytime and nighttime are different. What does a reporter do then?
I know, right? And these stories require corroboration from non-vampire people who likely aren’t available at 4am either.
Leak happens during the day + writers work it up during the day + corroboration happens during the day = stories likely take a few hours to put together. They’re all trying to get this out in time for a wave of news programs in the early evening and of course the print edition. It makes perfect sense.
Last I checked DC was still in the Eastern time zone, lol.
Far East, or Middle East?
WH jobs aren’t 9-5 gigs.
I’m in DC. Does it matter what time I start drinking?
Don’t give them too much credit, it’s mainly just because Trump’s not used to being watched very carefully having only been able to do business in Russia with their government in the last few years where he doesn’t have to worry about breaking any laws.
Spoiler Alert: It’s a coincidence.
