Discussion: Why Senators Are Pushing For A Health Care Vote That Could Go Down In Flames

I don’t believe there will be any vote unless they think they have the 50 votes to proceed. And I don’t think Collins especially, and very likely Caputo are budging.

Ryan insisted their would be a vote on their failed bill all the way up until it was time to vote and then it was pulled. I think that happens here.

I think Lee is like Paul; preening and looking for the first opportunity to fall in line.

My guess is a handful of others would vote ‘no’ if forced (Portman?) but more than happy to let Collins and Caputo do their dirty work.

“We’ve got to have a vote,” Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) told reporters this week. “We promised to vote for repeal, so let’s vote for repeal.”

How do you kill a zombie health care bill? No - not a riddle. Really, how do you make them truly dead? Put them on a Republican health care plan? (maybe it is a riddle)

“before going back to their districts”
These are Senators. They are elected state-wide. Aren’t political writers supposed to know this?
Oh, and how can they tout any legislative action if they WON’T EVEN HOLD A FUCKING TOWN HALL BECAUSE THEY ARE A BUNCH OF PANTS-PISSING COWARDS?

It’s a Zen koan, like “What is the sound of one head smashing against the desktop?”

Oh, I know the answer to that one - unfortunately.

I sure hope no senator has ever said “I’ll eat my hat…”

@paulw, at 6 Eastern the Parliamentarian–the one Mitch has in his pocket-declared Planned Parenthood, the 6 month lockou and a lot of the rest of it required 60 votes. You mentioned this before, I think.

thanks for the update. The planned parenthood one was really a no-brainer. Some of the others might possibly have had some kind of farfetched indirect argument made for them.

So how many republicans are going to argue that they’re not going to vote for anything that doesn’t sufficiently Punish the Wimminz?

Damn few.
BTW theres a WaPo newsbomb that Sessions discussed Russian bemnefits in the Trump administration in Early 16 with Russian Ambassador.

It betrays my geekiness but each new revelation has me thinking of a joke in the movie Thor: The Dark World.

In it, a bunch of kids accidentally find a portal that goes to a barren planet. Out of curiosity they drop all kinds of objects into it to watch them vanish. Later in the movie, Thor and Jane find themselves stranded in a dark cave on the same inhospitable world. Thor looks around and asks, “Why are there so many shoes in here?”

It works much better actually watching the movie but I had to share.

Probably because the hard right members of the GOP want to be able to say “don’t blame me, I voted for repeal”.
