I agree. Since the crazy religious freaks think that tornadoes are punishments for gays, why don’t they see that Scalia dying is because the Goddess is sick of these rightwing abortion laws?
I do appreciate the response.
Thanks again for that. It never gets old. God (or Whomever) bless Randy Newman, a true master of musical satire, and I hope he’s taking comfort in the recent turn of events.
Scalia got the message about ten years too late. Maybe eight years too late, because ten years ago W Bush would have been able to appoint some much younger Bork-lite to the court.
Although I’d surely like to not have Citizens United poisoning our elections.
For those, like me, who had no idea of the Circuit Courts’ geography, the Ninth covers the West Coast and a few inland states.
Which might help explain “its disputatious and fractured colllegium.”
Horseshit.
If and when RBG retires, her replacement will be appointed by a Democratic president.
Definitely agree. The article is as much about Kennedy as Scalia, so let the dead stay dead. I probably couldn’t pick Kennedy out of a lineup, so more pics of him might be useful to some of us.
It appears he’s possessed Thomas, and moved him to interrogate for the first time in 10 years. I’m sure Clarence’s little mind is not inconvenienced by the presence of Scalia’s large ego taking up the master bedroom, living room, and kitchen of his brain.
Thomas has been Scalia’s sock puppet for decades. The only surprise is that the sock puppet came to life just like Pinocchio.
A 4-4 tie means the judgement passed by the lower court stands. Not a good outcome for women in Texas.
A preferable outcome (for the likes of us) would be if Kennedy joins the sensible justices and makes it 5-3, then the supreme’s decision stands and is considered a precedent for similar cases in other circuits.
Fuck you justice Kennedy - what gives you the right to speak for women who’ve had abortions? Believe me, 99.9 % of women who’ve had the procedure don’t have any regrets at all.
He’d better - how he could POSSIBLY believe that having to drive 1000 miles to access abortion isn’t an “undue burden” is beyond me.
These laws have nothing to do with women’s health. It’s all about shutting down the clinics.
Oh, and now they’re mad that birth rates among poor women in TX are going up. The poor bastard that published that study in TX was forced to resign.
That would require intellectual consistency.
Something rarely observed in any conservative, but never in conservative holy rollers (otherwise known as grifters).
Just more evidence that the voices in their head are self-inflicted…
American Tealiban is hard at work.
In the opinion, Kennedy described in graphic detail the procedure, while writing that women who undergo abortion experience “regret,” “grief” and "sorrow”
Good thing he didn’t take “regret,” “grief” and "sorrow” into consideration in the same-sex marriage case. He would have banned both same-sex and heterosexual marriages by that standard.
Not just Texas. The 5th Circuit also covers Louisiana and Mississippi.
To this day, I break down into a fit of the giggles when he gets to “Hitler! Stalin! Men who need no introduction.”
A 4-4 decision is the “outcome that would amount to a loss for abortion rights activists” because it would allow the decision of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to stand. The potential impact is blunted because its effect is limited to the 5th Circuit, i.e., the states of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
