Discussion: Why Bill Cosby's Silence May Be His Best Defense Now

Discussion for article #231379

I hope none of it is true. I remember laughing so hard at his old stand up stuff. I don’t want to feel sad yet.

“I know people are tired of me not saying anything, but a guy doesn’t have to answer to innuendos,” he told Florida Today newspaper.

Sure, why respond to innuendos? But how about direct accusations replete with details? Should a guy respond to that?

Haven’t seen any proof or evidence presented yet, and the few “details” stink like a two-week old fish rotting in a bucket of pigshit. I think most of these people have piled on, thinking that Mr. Cosby is too senile and vulnerable to fight back. However, from what little he’s said, I believe they’ve grossly underestimated his mental clarity and faculties.

I’ve had people lie about me a number of times in my life. I don’t waste any of my time responding to lies. I ignore them. People who are willing and ready to believe lies will believe them no matter what I say, and I have no burden to provide evidence to “prove” a negative. My life isn’t a Faux Spew shit festival.

What will be interesting, eventually, is what evidence the accusers provide in court. I have grave doubts that anything of substance will come of this. In fact, I look forward to Mr. Cosby writing a comedy book skewering them in his classic and best wit. This may end up being one of the great comedic capstones to his career.

Time will tell.

This is the dark underbelly of fame in America – the crazies and con artists try to take a piece of you.

Someone interested in justice would not wait 30 years to report a crime, but a con artist might find it advantageous to allege that a crime happened 30 years ago, it makes it a lot easier to shrug off the lack of evidence.

He has the right to do that.

I never watched the TV show (or Fat Albert for that matter) but I grew up listening to his comedy albums. I had some of the routines memorized. This is so depressing for me.

Of course there are “details”, no good lie can stand without “details”. Bill Cosby’s accusers are playing an old game, make accusations and hope your target says something you can sue him over. Nothing will come of these accusations, but where does Bill Cosby go to get his reputation back? Our justice system can choose not to pursue accusations that don’t ring true, the courts can acquit when an accusation does not hold up; but there is no place to go to be proven innocent.
