Discussion for article #227649
The biggest shock to national politics in the USA would be if Hillary decided NOT to run for President, for one reason or another, (personal health, age, whatever). Hillary will decide to run, about 99% sure here, because she is virtually guaranteed election, given the demographics of a national presidential election, there are simply not enough electoral votes available to Republicans to win an election after 2000, (when George W. Bush lost the popular vote, even in Florida, but the Supreme Court stopped the vote before it was done.) The problem will be getting a Democratic Party controlled Senate, the outlook for that would be poor in 2016, and perhaps in 2018. So what Hillary might do as President may be severely limited by Congress.
These reporters have mastered the art of stating the obvious.
No one capable of rational thought doubts that she’s running.
But it’s smart to remember that Harkin is an old friend, and that this is his last steak fry.
So it’s also possible that she’s going to Iowa to celebrate an old friend’s retirement and talk about his accomplishments, which are many.
As the old saying goes, “There’s many a slip 'twixt cup and lip.”
Well, I respect Harkin a lot, and wish he would stick around until he dies in office, but that’s just a selfish wish, and he deserves a few retirement years. I just hope that his seat remains in the hands of Democrats after November, with that total idiot crazy pig-farmer running as the Republican nominee.
As for Hillary visiting ONLY to go to his last steak fry event or whatever, come on, Hillary can see and celebrate his career anywhere, anytime, perhaps even with President Obama in Washington sometime in December, these people can see each other almost anytime they wish to, to congratulate a career. Going to Iowa is making a statement, she certainly did not need to go there just to salute his career, she could have called him on Skype or done a video.
Wait a moment, Chris Christie has been to Iowa several times. So it’s either the Jimmy Johns sandwiches or he’s running for President.
Wow! This knocks the 2014 important races off the radar. When do they start printing tickets for the coronation balls, and where do I send for one or two? Will President-elect Billary be available for “selfys” for non-major contributors?
News Flash!!!
We already knew that. Who here didn’t know that?..Please, raise your hand. Someone will be around shortly to take the official tally.
These boneheads in the news are sooo fucking lazy…Try telling us something we don’t already know for a change. Please, go back to watching your football game now, would ya?
And spare us.
For you? No.
if people would stop re-electing their own as if they are not part of the problem … 2.examples Mitch leading in KY Pence elected Gov. in IN…
Cue the trolls to tell us all about how we should “make a statement” by voting third party, in three…two…
Sure did convince me! I’m gonna go right out and re-register Green, so I can vote for some no-name emoprog and make damn sure Jeb Bush wins!
When did she stop running?
Harkin’s plight in politics epitomizes Hillary future role as presidential candidate. She is passionate about women’s issues and the best suited candidate in the requisite areas. Boxed in by the circumstances.
Rather than die in office, they will share a combined legacy of activism with the common sense to retire and enjoy life. Hillary, the first female president for one term, grandparent and forever first lady in retirement.
2014 is all but decided. Get used to life in the fast lane. American elections are always 2 years or 4 years ahead of themselves, and the sad thing is that Republican voters have no knowledge whatsoever of what is going on today in the world, and even less knowledge of history. As a Republican, one has to forget the past.
Take Michele Bachmann, for instance, some Republicans thought she could be President in 2012
I wouldn’t, if I were you.
Hillary has an amazing way of self destructing during primary season. The DNC should have good field of back-ups.
The more important question is: who the hell would fry a steak?
And now those euphemisms that have littered Clinton coverage so far – the potential’s and presumed’s – are starting to be discarded.
And yet, Hillary has still not declared her candidacy. So what exactly is different today than yesterday?
She’s taking yoga! She’s talking to important people!
If this is the level of confirmation necessary to “drop all pretense” of undeclared candidacy, it seems the media could have dropped it a long time ago.
Or they could wait until she actually declares.

I think the problem in 2008 is that solid Dems were worried about the Mighty Wurlitzer bringing up the healthcare/two-for-one/Monica sleazefest they ran with 1992-2000 and reducing, by just enough, a Dem’s chance of decisively seizing the White House. With the Dumbya admin receded in the rearview mirror and healthcare working out, a solid stint as SecState under her belt that Hillary looks far better than any Republican’t currently on the national stage.
We don’t need a good field of backups. We need a solid bench of candidates from the local to the national level who are ready to move up as circumstances allow, not more people willing to criticize from the bench.
God forbid! You framed that perfectly - Hillary or Hell!
