Discussion: White Nationalist Coast Guard Officer Won't Be Released From Jail After All

Well, that’s good.

But man it seems like our justice system is getting more and more fucked up.

Seems like the Second Amendment isn’t very thorough if you can make it illegal for someone to own weapons just because they’re addicted to something or have a conviction or whatever.

Either we’ve got the Right to bear arms, or we don’t.

NRA should be all in protecting this guy.

Day’s reasoning was that the prosecutors didn’t plan on charging the Coast Guard official with terrorism.

Well, yeah, he’s white after all. You can’t be a terrorist if you’re white. Although he may qualify as a homicidal psychotic fear-driven megalomaniac, which qualifies him to run in a Republican primary, but certainly not a terrorist.

Ok, key details: It was the magistrate judge who ruled he could be released on monitored bail, though he did not release him on the spot but instead scheduled a future bail terms hearing. That gave the prosecution time and a kick in the ass, and they appealed the bail release to the judge who will preside over the actual trial. Trial judge said nope, he’s a danger, and cited similar manifestos written by other mass shooters.

US District Judge Jarrod Hazel said he found it “relevant and troubling” that two weeks after Hasson reviewed sections of a manifesto written by far-right Norweigian terrorist Anders Breivik about targeting “category A traitors,” Hasson allegedly made a hit list of Democratic politicians and media figures and did internet searches about where to find members of Congress. The government has quoted Hasson’s writings describing white supremacist sympathies and his desire to commit violence.

Im not sure why the prosecutors haven’t filed terrorism charges, but am glad to see common sense prevail here.

Apparently, he has motive, he has the means, and he’s shown intent by actively researching where to find his potential victims. Good enough for me to keep him locked up.

Ok. This works. If we could get the issue of WH compliance with Congressional subpoenas enforced and keep Barr’s hands off of the on-going cases, the rule of law might actually be in decent shape so long as Dems win the 2020 elections.

…Presuming the Supremes don’t rule on a 5-4 decision that electoral votes from California and New York are invalid due to too many immigrants there clearly voting illegally…

"…an Internet history full of searches like ‘please god let there be a race war’ and ‘best n***** killing gun’.

Sounds like a serious case of “economic anxiety”.

OT, but this sounds like some of the yahoos from my county, who will be coming out of the woodwork (and backwoods) next Monday evening. Trump is scheduled to have a rally at our tiny local airport (an airplane hit a deer on the runway last year). I fear the orange hazy stench will take weeks to dissipate.

Prosecutors label him a domestic terrorist-yet can’t seem to charge him as such. But-of-course Domestic Terrorist isn’t a crime in this country-yet; at least for alt-right wackos.

I can bet the money I don’t have, if someone said they were affiliated with Black Lives Matter was found with a treasure trove of guns, silencers and hit lists; said individual would be labeled a Black Identity Extremist/Terrorist(Jeff KKK Session’s terminology)…and WAPO, NYT, Breitbart, Fox…would all create big headlines and the entire GOP-Nation would be in a uproar.

Several weeks ago, Judge Charles Day shocked the prosecutors (and apparently Hasson’s own wife) when he ruled that Hasson could be released on bail. Day’s reasoning was that the prosecutors didn’t plan on charging the Coast Guard official with terrorism.
I don’t think his wife wants him back, so where would he stay? And I wonder if the judge was successful in releasing him with the provision that he could only have one item back:
guns
silencer
computer
Tramadol
I wonder which one he would have chosen?

Those of us living and working in the DMV are grateful. It has not been that long ago that the DC Snipers haunted us.

“please god let there be a race war” and “best n***** killing gun.”

  1. Not to defend the accused, but “please god let there be a race war” is what you type into google when you want find to find a comment you read previously so you can reference it, not necessarily because you are actually hoping for a race war. I mean, I guess there are people who approach the problem of finding stuff by transcribing their sentiments into the search box. But, if we apply this interpretation to me, we’ll be forced to reach all kinds of mutually incompatible conclusions about me because I often cite the things I disagree with.

  2. “best n***** killing gun.”
You’ve got to be off-the-scale racist – I mean, so racist that it cripples you to the point of not being able to cook your own meals or remember what day of the week it is – to think that a person’s race has any influence on how vulnerable they are to lead slugs. But the data suggests that whatever gun is issued to police is the “best n***** killing gun,” so I assume google directed him to the Glock 19 (or 17 or 22).
