Would you really be that upset if Obama had a golfing date (which he didn’t but please provide a link to prove otherwise since you say there’s no doubt) and did not attend? Or that a higher level official than an ambassador did not attend?

ETA: Oh, and the WH seriously blew it on responding by apology. No other President has been present in what is, in essence, a political march of unity in another country. Nobody ever raised an eyebrow or threw a tantrum when GWB didn’t go to Spain after the Madrid bombing (another act of terrorism). So why is this suddenly an issue?
Because I have a theory. I’m sure most of you have the same one, or have heard it before. It’s called “presidenting while black”.
The same bunch of overwrought ninnies in the press corps, pundit class and the general teahadist public who are losing their ever loving minds over this stupidity are the same ones who were gorging on Freedom Fries and telling France to go pound sand for not following them into the fool’s errand that was Iraq and WMD’s. Someone on Twitter posted the reason the WHPC is actually mad about this: they didn’t get a round trip to Paris for the weekend. LOL
That laugh is a weak one as I’m sure that was at least some of the beltway meat puppetry thinking. That and not a single one of them seems to have any clue what it actually takes to run a security detail for a Presidential visit. No way Secret Service is going to let POTUS or VPOTUS go on less than 72 hours notice. Isn’t Secret Service already under fire for not doing their job in protecting the First Family? But Ed Henry and Mrs. Greenspan want to throw a tantrum because President Obama didn’t fly thousands of miles for a staged photo op, wasting tens of thousands of taxpayer money.
I am seriously fresh outta f*cks to give for these people.

Obama did more than diminish America in the world’s eyes this weekend. He fractured the Progressive Democrat coalition.
Was it equally shameful when President Bush didn’t go to Madrid to march in solidarity after the terrorist bombing there? Or are we going to continue this transparent double standard?
What’s shameful is how little you respect the institutions of your own country. No matter who holds the office, you respect the office. It’s clear you don’t.

France isn’t throwing hissy fits about him not coming (I think they actually preferred it so the event was about the EVENT and not about POTUS as so many international events are), so what exactly did he “diminish”? Because the only people I see freaking out are non-Dems and the usual Beltway puppets. Which category do you fall into?

Admitting the error exhausts the story, leaving the asshats with nowhere else to go with it. Denial leads to an endless orgy of idiocy that ends with them giving it a name with the word “gate” attached to the end. Best of two bad options was to just admit it.

I think “we aren’t going to comment on this matter” would have been sufficient, seeing as we know they’re going to run with it whether there is anything to it or not. Not like we haven’t seen it ad nauseum the last 7 years…

I think that’s the main point – Republicans have proven themselves beyond petty in such matters. They will criticize anything and everything. There is no avoiding it. “No comment” is the only way to show you do not dignify the yapping of small dogs.

First off…the march was about the people of Paris, of Frances…not about these guys. Second …exactly how far did this lot “march” with the crowd, anyway. If they got half a kilometre I’ll be impressed
