At this point, why would anyone believe him?
cue the tweet saying he’s doing this because Democrats couldn’t in 5,4,3,2…
It does not add any new background check requirements for gun purchases or close any of the current loopholes, and it is supported by the NRA.
It takes some real balls in the gun debate to announce you'll support a bill that is supported by the NRA. A profile in courage, yes siree!!
He can afford to support it since it will never pass both houses of Congress.
And what will his position be next week?
Another mass shooting will happen in the next few weeks. Then a few weeks after that. Then more again a bit later. Then some more.
Nothing will get done about it. Congress may make sure ever more guns are sold, with higher capacity magazines, and more powerful ammunition, to an expanded eligibility pool of buyers.
Whatever happens will be the precise opposite of getting a handle on the problem. Congress’ role in this issue is to make the problem worse. And we can depend on them to fill that role.
Will this be a fifth pillar? I think i know what “infrastructure week” really means now.
To believe Trump’s words is to run around with sand in your hands.
Why do we have to wait a week? I say he’ll change his position before the close of business today.
More lies and bullshit. I’ll never believe him or ANY Republican anywhere ever again.
You could go talk to some guy with a damn arsenal in his house and a pistol on his hip when he’s out shopping and “molon labe” tattooed on his forehead and he’d tell you as soon as you broached the idea that some people shouldn’t have guns. They don’t argue about that. This enforces existing laws, which is a thing the gun nuts immediately say should be done whenever you propose new ones. It’s literally the least you could do and claim you’d done something. Oh, and he’ll make some incredible claims. It does zero to keep military weapons out of the hands of any random troubled, angry person. It would have zero impact on the illicit sales that plague depressed areas. Domestic situations, zero. Suicides, zero. Posturing and cowardice, that’s all it is. Happy Presidents’ Day, America. Nice, nice job.
To wit:
Until he decides it’s better TV to change his mind.
It’ll be his position until it’s not his position. Timeline for and reason for change of position is unknown and unknowable.
The only thing we can rely on is that we cannot rely on him taking a position and keeping it. Well, except for hating Obama. And Hillary.
A weak bill supported by the NRA is better than nothing? Actually this is worse than nothing. It allows Repubs and Dems alike to smile and slap each other on the back and say, “See, we did something” then forget about it until the next mass murder.
Fine. Pass this bill, but make sure to eliminate loopholes and include a ban on new AR-15 type assault weapons.
That would be something worth a headline.
“It does not add any new background check requirements for gun purchases or close any of the current loopholes, and it is supported by the NRA.”
And, it does nothing about actual guns. Nor about mental health issues or treatment. Nor about the ability to purchase or continue to possess a weapon of war that has as it’s intended purpose killing a lot of people efficiently.
So, basically, the barest of minimum efforts to stop gun massacres. As would the students of Parkland, I call BS.
Correction: Chris Murphy is the Senator from Connecticut
If you ever wanted to know what it would take to drop his approval numbers lower, this would do it. Even his “considering” it will drop those numbers noticeably.
Great. He can come home with me and have relations with my sister then.
