Discussion: White House: Obama's Round Of Golf Says Nothing About His Grief For Foley

Discussion for article #226753

Right wing revenge for Bush’s much maligned, “Now watch this drive” moment.

Bottom line: The RWNJs are upset that Obama is playing the course and not serving in the clubhouse.

Well, what else is Obama supposed to do? The right would whine if he didn’t hit the links. Also what is the right doing about Foley other than whining?

Do I have to say it?

“Now, watch this drive.”

I don’t like golf. I hate when people talk about golf. As usual, George Carlin said everything that needs to be said about the sport.

I liked it better when BO was shooting hoops more often then teeing off. Fuck golf.

I’m so sick of this criticism.

No more than two fucking weeks ago, the New York Times ran a big story about how Obama wasn’t social enough, how he didn’t have enough members of Congress over to the White House for drinks and dinner. . . and how things would get so much better for him if he would just get out there and mingle a little bit.

So he takes a vacation, plays a round of golf, and the haters lose their fucking minds.

What is the appropriate “grief period” for people who never met James Foley? 24 hours? 48 hours? 72 hours?

If Obama frowns, he’s surly. If he smiles, he isn’t taking things seriously enough. If he stays in Washington, then he’s a loner. If he gets out in the country, he’s lazy and doesn’t care about his job. If he visits the troops, he’s just using them for a photo-op. If he doesn’t visit the troops, then he’s clearly being disrespectful.

He just can’t fucking win. It doesn’t matter what he does. Everyone screamed to bring Bergdahl home. Then the second after he was rescued, the same people lost their fucking minds and screamed “How DARE you bring him home”.

He has the toughest job in the world, gets absolutely no help from Congress on anything, and has been subjected to the nastiest treatment of any President in our history – much of it racial. How he’s been able to do this job and maintain the dignity he has is beyond me.

He’s a better man than this country, collectively, deserves.

“Mr. Obama has traditionally resisted what he sees as the empty political gesture of abruptly upending his schedule in reaction to the latest crisis.”

Must recreate at all costs. The terrorists will win if he loses even one round of golf due to “schedule upendification”.

If they (journalists and President Obama’s enemies) could witness it, they would report, ‘Obama takes a shit while Foley’s parents grieve.’

How many rounds of golf make an out of touch politician into a “watching the house burn down” megalomaniac?

It is not “Right wing revenge”.

It’s pointing out that Obama is worse than Bush - at least when it comes to golfing “while the world burns”.

I hope that Lawrence O’Donnell gets on the case once again. It is unbelievable that THIS was a front page story (a non-story, really) this morning.

What happened – did the debt holders of the Times insist the paper try to demean Obama at every turn? (I see them doing the same with de Blasio, who is always characterized by the Times the way they characterize Obama, as ‘struggling.’ For a supposedly liberal rag, they sure hate it when liberals are in office!)

The qualities that make this president able to function in the manufactured outrage of rupert and roger are the same qualities that will eventually bring the wingers to their knees.

Lemmings that they are.

See LoganFive’s comment immediately above yours and ask yourself, What would you have Obama do that would not earn your mockery?

It IS the silly season, isn’t it.

I suppose it’s less gruesome to be in a wedding party that’s blown to bits from a drone strike, or among a group of journalists strafed from a helicopter gunship, or slaughtered with a gun by military personnel exacting revenge for a roadside bomb, than to have one’s head removed with a blade for the benefit of a video camera.

After all, thanks to embedded reporting and a classification system run amok, our acts of terrorism don’t usually have a video that’s released, and on the rare occasion there is, the individual who releases it goes to prison for compromising “state secrets.”

We are one fucked up country. Seriously.
