Discussion: White House Hopes Report Will Change GOP Minds On Climate Change

The sternly-worded letter never fails! All hail the sternly-worded letter!

Why are we still pretending this is an honest difference of opinion?

Republicans are skeptical of Climate Change because they’re PAID to be skeptical. They’re PAID to gum up the works and sabotage any attempts at regulation. We need to cut off the money:

Yup, the Republicans and the pundits will blame Obama because he didn’t push hard enough, didn’t show he was “serious” about it, and didn’t invite them to the White House for dinner.

You see it’s his job to convince them of the truth, and if they refuse to agree with him it is his fault they don’t agree. Forget science, forget evidence, forget the truth. You see, it’s all optics – that’s what’s important.

If the republicans were to wake up tomorrow and see a arid wasteland outside their window, they would deny it has anything to do with climate change. In fact, I would think they would blame it on Benghazi, or Hillary or food stamps or minimum wage, or Obamacare or a dead Bin Laden getting caught having sex with a mule…

same difference…

carbon taxes were originally a gooper idea

Personally, I like that the O Administration takes the high road publicly on this. I know they don’t really believe the GOP will change, but, publicly engaging in tit for tat squabbling on the denier’s level is a waste of time.

Nor is FOX likely to allow it. “It” being (a) Republicans being allowed to “change their minds” and (b) the Propaganda to stop. In my 66 years, I have never (even in Latin America) been exposed to an organization as openly deceitful as FOX. Someone high-up in their organization must have read “Mein Kampf”. At the time I first read the book, as a youth, I was deeply impressed by the almost intuitive feel the author had for swaying minds. I was living in Germany at the time.

I could not have imagined that, at this point in my life, I would have been a resident of a country whose major source of news is patterned exactly like that described in pre-Nazi Germany.

If FOX is so adamant that they will only cover a presser with Benghazi in it, maybe the White House could sneak some content in that FOX would have to cover. Something like this:

“97% of scientists agree man-made climate change is a serious threat to the American way of life. Benghazi. Immigration reform is the moral thing to do. We are a nation of immigrants.”

I hope I win the Powerball. The new climate report will help me do that as much as it will help change Republican minds in Congress.

Get out and vote the suckers out. That’s all that will help.

“is afflicted with” is the proper verb construct I believe. Kansas has Brownback like one might have genital warts.

Exactly. “Understand” or “agree is correct” are best, but “accept” or even “argue” are leagues more correct than “believe”.

Change the GOPs mind? LOL. First, many of them tie climate change to the return of Jesus, so on that note, climate armageddon is a good thing. But in practical terms the GOP will see this report as ‘more socialism propaganda from the black man.’

The end.

Once you’ve argued against something for so long, when it ends up being indisputable, you must continue to deny or else you’d have to admit you were wrong. I have a family full of these people.

Particularly since many of them and their supporters believe they will be raptured out of harm’s way beforehand.
