Governance is not a rethug skill. Whining is.
Meanwhile… Go DiFi!
This is the reality we need to stay focused on. The Republicans want this to be a story of Democratic intransigence, when it’s really yet another example of bullying and boorish behavior towards people who can’t defend themselves. Say that loud enough and you’ll strip away all but the odious base…
this was supposed to be a somewhat bipartisan meeting:Graham and Durban meeting with the pResident to discuss a DACA agreement they had worked out. They got there and tRump had stacked the meeting with Purdue, Cotton, McCarthy and some other rethug critter - all opposed to a DACA agreement.
F’ing tRump had sabotaged the meeting intentionally.
What are Trump’s options if nations refuse to accept or allow entry of the Dreamers he proposes to deport?
True. I read that someone within the WH called Cotton and Perdue on the hill to get to the WH ASAP - and that they beat Graham and Durbin to the WH. Guessing Steve Miller. I think it was the Bannon wing sabatoging Donnie - which is what got him so amped up to ‘play to his base’ with his language.
Trump himself made DACA an issue by unilaterally ending it even against the strong wishes of the American people. He did it to gain political leverage for other things he wanted since he’s more than happy to take hostages and the Republican party is more than happy to take hostages.
Trump ALSO continues to make DACA an issue since a federal court has ruled that his administration could not end DACA the way they did and must restart it. Trump could accept that ruling and give up the hostage, but they refuse even as they comply (as they must) with the court order while they choose to appeal, probably to SCOTUS.
So DACA is entirely on Trump and the Ds cannot under any circumstances allow this kind of hostage-taking on public policy to continue. The Rs only need to use DACA recipients as hostages because they need D votes to pass a budget or any CR because of the filibuster in the Senate and their own rogue caucus in the House. Without this hostage, the Ds could extract concessions for their votes that the Rs do care about.
This is a chance for the Ds to win the politics for a change and just let the government shut down and let the Rs take the blame – as they will. Trump and the Rs will try to blame the Ds, but except for their true believers, everyone else WILL rightly blame the Rs for their hostage-taking and anti-government ideology.
The Senator is as usual right, and she always use the most discreet language possible to describe the worst events that are unfolding.
“I think (Democrats) are using it as an excuse to not help this President get something accomplished, which I think is a sad day for our country,” Sanders said
As far as the “sad day for our country”, Huckabee is off by a little over a year.
Indeed. Gotta love how blatant it all is too. One of the videos about the DACA issue they’re featuring prominently on the Faux News site right now stars Hans von Spakovsky. Anyone who thinks their fits about immigration are about anything other than trying to stop demographic shifts that are making the country’s voters less white and increasingly liberal is fucking delusional.
“I think (Democrats) are using it as an excuse to not help this President get something accomplished, which I think is a sad day for our country,” Sanders said"
The unified response to that sentiment in the press pool should be a round of fake coughing to cover surreptitious utterances of “Garland.”
It was supposed to be Durbin and Graham and Trump—no one else.
The WH aides scrambled to sabotage the bipartisan effort because it would anger trump’s base.
And Trump’s base is the only group Trump cares about or considers—outside himself.
That is a good question. Or just what happens when he drops someone over the border who never developed the support structure for living in a totally foreign country. I am thinking about Jorge Garcia. Meanwhile his wife and kids are without him, his income and his support. So what happens then.
You can go to the letter of the law and strangle its intent. Words I never hear from this despot of a §resident are humane, moral or even what is the right thing to do?
Sounds like someone is desperate for something he can call a “win.”
I suppose people can disagree about what’s more effective, but I sure wish it was something more along the lines of “seems to me this is all about race and your attempts to cut off immigration from non-white countries because you fear their immigrants will become Dem voters.” Just once, I’d like to watch one of these mewling comity-concerned asshats hop up and put the proverbial nutsack on the table and demand that it be looked at.
Should be something like this
Instead we get:
Diplomacy doesn’t work with fascists.
Did any of those reporters at the white house remind her through a question that the deal that president was discussing with senator Durbin was a BIPARTISAN congressional agreement and the Republicans who get-crashed the meeting were there to sabotage it?
It’s a matter of style, I think, not necessarily an evasion of assigning blame to the big on in chief. She’s always been cool rather than hot, but we can see now, I hope, I hope, her heart’s in the right place. Gawd knows Grass feels burned by the lady.
This is the fundamental problem at press briefing. Each reporter has a set of questions he/she wants to ask, and so they wait patiently until they can ask theirs. There is rarely if ever follow up of the previous question no matter how batshitcrazy Sanders’ answer is. You could say the press briefing is one long off topic thread.
It appears as if the Repubs are actually daring the Dems to attach a clean Daca bill to the agreement to keep the government open which seems foolish to me. Even as a moderate Dem I think they should not only require a clean Daca bill but fund chip for 5 years in exchange for Dem votes on the budget or CR. If the Repubs want to shut down the government to prevent a Daca bill and medical insurance for children then let them. Looks like a real loser position for the Repubs which makes me think that it is exactly what Repubs in the house would do. Go for it Dems.
