Discussion: Whether You Want to Have a Baby or Not, the GOP Repeal Bill Makes Life Harder

Ain’t that the truth?? I don’t even think most of them really understand what they are arguing at all – it’s pure unadulterated emotion. Spiced with bile.

I’ve been surprised that there hasn’t been more notice of the “No Tax Credits for ANY Abortion Coverage” provision. And the indirect effects, like the fact that this would make the tax credits unavailable in California, which requires all health insurance to cover reproductive care services, including abortion.

The NYT reported on this issue recently, but I’ve seen virtually nothing else on it.

The US economy has always treated children as a personal liability for families instead of a national asset. Countries that offer parents paid leave, health care, child care, and education for their children do so because these governments regard healthy, well educated children as vital assets for the future.

The US, by contrast, imposes the entire financial burden of child rearing on parents. This new plan only makes the burden much heavier, specifically on women, by taking away even the paltry health care help that exists. It’s the logical next step for the backward, short-sighted system we’ve been fighting for generations.
