He was denied a conceal carry permit, which isn’t the same thing as being denied the ability to purchase or own a firearm.

Having previous convictions is a good reason to deny someone a concealed carry permit, but also a good reason for failing a NICS background check.

Eric Rudolph was a classified as a terrorist. So were lots of other white people, as they should have been. White Supremacist groups are watched and monitored big time by the FBI as terror groups.

I’m gonna assume you have not been in a bank hold-up or a shooting in a theater or some other mass killing spree. I can assure you that the survivors …even those NOT wounded in this theater shooting were in fact terrorized. They were scared shitless as anyone would be. Terror isn’t only caused by somebody from a terror group no matter what the law may say. In the middle of a shooting definitions ( terrorism, hate crime) suddenly have no meaning at all. I’m willing to bet a lot of folks in that theater are going to need some therapy to work thru what they experienced.

Only because the police forced him back inside the theater. It sounds like he intended to leave and possibly continue his killing. He found suicide preferable to being apprehended and spending the rest of his life in prison.

Four on-duty police officers happened to be on the property, Craft said. Within 60 seconds, they were inside the theater.
By that point, Houser had left and come back after noting the quickly growing police presence outside, including one patrol car near the exit door where he’d parked his blue 1995 Lincoln Continental. Oh please, it’s not my rationale—it’s a direct quote from the U.S. Code that I cut and pasted from the FBI site. Your own quote proves nothing about this thing you’ve been on about forever about having to belong to a group. I do notice you’re saying that the group thing is “a criteria.” Backing away from that, are you? Changing the goal posts?
