Any Republican who supports the Constitution should be demanding the repeal of the Hyde Amendment. Abortion is a legal procedure and a womanās right to have one is Constitutionally protected. Thereās no reason why tax dollars should be prohibited from funding them.

No. This is how Trump operates. He deliberately brings up a topic, says vague things that leave interpretation wide open. Then each of us fills in the blanks with what we āheard,ā and miraculously we all agree with him, even if we disagree with each other.
Trump is a con man. He plays 3-card monty with words. You thought you heard a reasonable approach to Planned Parenthood. What he actually said was gibberish.

Donāt kid yourself - while he has a certain knack for exploiting the media and a middling business sense, he really is dumb, or more accurately, ignorant. Not only does he not know how government works, he doesnāt care that he doesnāt know.

Agree he does this. What I did was lay out two possible interpretations of what he said. My impression is that Tierney was suggesting that he was āonlyā intending to defund most abortions which as she points out has already been done. My point was his statement could equally be read to defund Planned Parenthood as a whole which would be hard for the Federal government to do legally without putting restrictions on where private individuals choose to get their care.
From my position either course of action is immoral and irresponsible.
See, this is why Trump is not like any other candidate. He is very clever at finding open-ended phrasing when he needs to be vague, and crude but oddly precise insults when he wants to gut an opponent.
The open-ended phrases are sprinkled with buzz words, but donāt really make sense logically. Heās whistling to his base, but manages to reel in people who try to make sense of his strange phrasing. Itās literally another language, not meant for your ears. Like a magician, he distracts and pulls a trick; his supporters say āItās magic!ā and the rest of us are left wondering āHow did he do that?ā
This is his skill. Heās a genius at deception. Of course, heād be a terrible president.

Other than the optics, how does keeping the federal funds separate mean that federal funding doesnāt help keep abortions available. If the funding they get goes exclusively to non-abortion related services, doesnāt that free up money for abortions? If iām giving money to an organization that does something good in the community, and then I find out that the same organization also does something bad in the community, but promises me that my money is only going to the good stuff, Iām going to stop giving them money and find something else to do with my money.
For the record I totally support PP and the right to choose, and I suppose even if itās just optics and it helps keep PP open, then thatās net good. I also have no problem with tax dollars going to fund abortion clinics, even if people disagree with it. I disagreed with going to war in Iraq and look where that got my tax dollarsā¦ Iām curious about how it works though.
Iām not so sure. Heās pandering to the uneducated, who think Washington DC is next to Seattle, and also think President Obama is the one performing the abortions. Restating their ignorance is just pandering and a pretty smart populist appeal. Absolute bullshit, but pretty high on the Goebbels scale.
Maybe I just donāt understand stupid that well. All my life Iāve been driven to educate myself. To learn. To be curious about the world and it resulted in a career in teaching med students and doing medical research. I got to satisfy my curiosity and get paid doing it. Trump appeals to those who take pride in being poorly educated. HE SAID SO HIMSELF. He admires stupidity.
