Also part of a general pattern of extending the powers of the executive branch by pushing at flexible boundaries. The tariff brouhaha, e.g., is legally based on ‘national security’, an issue scarcely in sight in practice, now being rendered inoperative as a limiting criterion.
It would be interesting to enumerate the powers that the President is now free to exercise. Start wars, order nuclear attacks, assassinate citizens in foreign locales, torture and imprison non-nationals deemed enemies of the state, arbitrarily abrogate and impose international arrangements, restrict entry of members of specific ethnic and religious groups, permanently remove masses of children from contact with their families: in sum, if rather weakly put, deprive ‘persons’ of life, liberty, and property without due process of law… Already an impressive list.

Some good news in that the Administration has declined to prosecute around 16 border crossers because they came as head of household, meaning they had families. If that becomes implemented nationwide, then we may have put a stop to this family separation practice and can focus on reuniting the kids who were kidnapped with their families.

You know darned well that person will never be able to do ANY of this.
Of course the administration completely ignores the damage already done to separated families. The good news is that volunteers, teams of human rights organizations and attorneys working pro bono, are now navigating the labyrinth of bureaucracy to repair this. As they work to fix it, the administration keeps breaking it. Families are still being separated as we speak, and more children being flown to secret jails.

Since the Congressional Republicans are now completely domesticated and voluntarily neutered by trump, they don’t dare anger him, or even suggest that they might oppose him. They can’t utter a word without trembling in fear about what trump might tweet about it.
They’re worse than useless.
