Discussion: WH Defends Trump's Call For Probe Into NYT For Anonymous Op-Ed

“they are attempting to undermine the executive branch.”

As if Trump and his cronies need any help in that department. Just to add, I think we’re getting a bit confused about whether Trump wants DoJ to investigate the Times or the author of the Op-Ed piece. First Amendment rules out the former going anywhere and I don’t really see any criminal behavior in criticizing the President. Especially this President.

She also doubled down on Trump’s demand for the Justice Department to investigate the anonymous writer, saying that “they are attempting to undermine the executive branch.”

Hard to undermine it, given how fast the Wh itself is digging.

This morning Pence was telling some reporter how he just knew that no one in his office was the Anon writer because he knows them, knows his people and their character.

Yeah, under the bus Trump’s “people” went.

“They don’t want to be part of that process, they shouldn’t be here.”

Tfw I’m again feeling like AOA’s Bishop.

Sarah, may I suggest that you and “president” Drumpf read and copy the First Amendment 100 times, by which time perhaps, just perhaps the two of you may have a slight kernel of knowledge of what it means.

But in sum, dear Sarah, Trump cannot legislate, much less enjoin a newspaper for its opinions, its unconstitutional. Now I know that is a big word, but just keep saying the whole sentence to yourself, you might just get it someday.

I wonder is she actually meant dually elected… as in he was elected by both morons and Russians. :grinning:

Of course they defend it. Did anyone expect anything else?

Funny how nobody denies the substance of the oped.

“Does the President not think that that op-ed is protected by your First Amendment?”

“your First Amendment?” Was this a foreign-based reporter or were they using street slang?

Ok this one still baffles me. What was Kelly trying to communicate? Taken literally it seems like Kelly belittling Cohen for having withdrawn his (Cohen’s) resignation. Which is bizarre considering Kelly did not even proffer a resignation over the same incident.

Rhetorically, It feels like Gym Jordan’s “I’d kill him if he tried anything with me”. Is this what passes for solidarity and emotional support among manly men?

That if it was Kelly, he would have quit and kicked Trump’s ass on his way out.

It’s a problem, but Kelly will be the second to brag that he was close to quitting in the past.

In my book the only person more spineless than one who lets their boss talk them out of resigning over racist behavior by that boss, is the one who doesn’t even try to resign. Actually the first is spineless, the later deplorable

Though he’d likely disagree with one, both points are a good description of Kelly.
