Well…HRC’s lead is expected to be short-lived.
Look at the exit polls for how many Sanders voters said they would voter for Trump in Nov over Sanders… possibly mischievous Trump supporters. That’s Reason #270 for closed primaries.
Yeah, I’m a little surprised that she was ever ahead.
It’s a modified primary. Only registered Dems and Indies can vote in the Dem primary.
bdtex… I was momentarily confused but a nice new avatar
@answerfrog
And your new avatar. Also, too.
I think bdtex’s info is correct. This is from the official site. Dem exits suggest 1/3 WV voters are unaffiliated.
Does my political party matter in the primary election?
As a voter, your political party makes a difference when you vote in the primary election because it determines which ballot you may receive. If you are registered with one of the four recognized political parties (Democratic, Libertarian, Mountain, or Republican), you may only vote that party’s ballot or the non-partisan ballot. If you are registered with any other party or with no party, you may ask the poll worker for one of the recognized party’s ballots, or they will give you the non-partisan ballot.
Me too. I expected a call the moment polls closed. This is going to be a double-digit win for Sanders.
Bernie is still only ahead by about 10% (with 25% of precincts reporting) he might only net 3 delegates tonight.
With Trump cheerleader Moovens at the helm… what else do we expect?
And regardless… Sanders dominates this group of unaffiliated voters again, and over 40% of Sanders voters said they would vote for Trump over Hillary. So this Trump/Sanders axis… something we don’t want in Democratic primaries where the party selects the party’s nominee.
What I had in mind was his “Trump is damn good for CBS, money’s rolling in it’s fun” comments…
Still net 3 dels at this point. Benchmark’s final margin call is 51-38. Quite a lot of votes for the “Other” category.
Meanwhile, NE primary numbers are VERY interesting…
OK, but what does Nebraska’s Democratic primary even mean? Weren’t all of Nebraska’s Democratic delegates chosen by their caucus two months ago? Why are they doing this?
Honestly, I’m still confused about this. It seems to be a lot of waste, and yet there are other states doing the same. As for WA, @hikergirl explained to me some time ago that the voters (already unhappy about the caucus) approved an initiative for primaries a few decades ago but the Dem Party went with the caucus (and still does) to move up the calendar and get extra delegates. I’m not sure about NE. There may be other primaries down down ballot or issues to vote on so they just add the presidential primary again? Not sure.
Holy crap (and why am I not surprised by that?)
The avatar is Lt. Richard W. Dowling. That was his rank when he became famous. He was a Major when his military career ended.
A few days ago in WA we received our ballots for voting in the upcoming Presidential Primary. For the republicans it is the real primary. For Democrats it is all window dressing. It just confuses everyone that we vote again. There are no other issues on the ballot.
Do people actually turn out for that?
Agreed; when I went to my polling place today, I gave the poll worker my name and after she looked me up, she told the next guy I was to be given a Democratic ballot. My son got the same one and my husband was given a Republican one that was three pages long. (Apparently, the GOP in WV picks delegates in this vote.)
If you are registered as a Republican, you get a Republican ballot. Same with Democratic.
I suspect that Hillary is too well known and Sanders is not.
Yes, see my response above.
Or below, who knows where things will nest?
