Aw, your poor fee fees.

Call it ā€œmerdeā€ and you can charge triple. French, very classy.

Awesome!! Just when I thought all human beings had high tailed it out of West Virginia long ago. Excrement is a nose-gay compared to what Republican filth is doling out.

I don’t know. Here we are pretty proud of our moose ā€œnuggetā€ crafts. One person’s (or animal’s) shit is another person’s treasure?

My first impression was that he was being somewhat gentlemanly about exactly what he thought of the budget bill.

If he had approached the situation with pure truthfulness and honesty, Gov. Justice would have said without any hesitation ā€œā€¦ what we have here is a steaming pile of dog shit!ā€ revealing the same in lifting the cover of the silver platter.

A dried cow pie just doesn’t cut it.

I honestly don’t know how to respond to this. Aren’t Appalachians supposed to nurture a certain form of rustic pride? As in: ā€œwe may be poor but we try to maintain some standardsā€? Perhaps I’ve romanticized what clearly is a grim and crude reality.

Stupid stunt.

Silly remark. Schoolyard stuff.

I’m obviously not trying to suggest to you or @inlabsitrust there are no unsophisticated people anywhere, or that some of the redder states folks don’t embrace their regular-folksness as a point of pride. And even people I think are extremely sophisticated in other ways seem to enjoy crude humor that to me is kind of flat and obvious and not really funny.

Anyway all that said, again, I’ve learned over the years there’s numbers of people middle-class people in the more rural states north and south that don’t much enjoy the stereotypes they’re painted with and really don’t like it when those stereotypes get reinforced. They’re like Aunt Alexandra in Mockingbird. And I think those types of people would be pretty cringey about having their governor using visual aids to emphasize a joke about horseshit.

Why are Democrats so hot on raising sales taxes, which are highly regressive and an attack on the working class and unemployed? These are people who are most likely to be purchasing local and thus be paying a higher proportion of their income for the tax.

Agreed 100% with this sentiment. Democrats need to reach people–and if this is how a Dem governor in a state that voted OVERWHELMINGLY for Republicans in presidential races for the last decade reaches his people–then that’s how he should do it.

It’s smart. He knows his audience and he is talking to them.

Outsiders complaining that he’s not speaking in a way that reaches them are TOTALLY missing the point.

I take your point. But I find West Virginia and North Carolina to be odd places when it comes to politics. Are these people in any stream? mainstream? on the far right? or just plain ornery when it comes to politics?

Oh good. A special session where they’re free to pass more BS on any subject they desire. A double-edged sword to be sure.

My kind of Democrat!!!

I applaud the Governor of West Virginia for showing us how to stand up to asshole Republicans!

Normally I give politicians with ā€œDā€ after their name the strong benefit of the doubt, but this governor’s veto last Sunday of a bill that would eliminate $15M in subsidies to greyhound breeders eliminated all doubt in my mind. That’s $15M that could go towards education or job training, but instead goes to support a dying ā€œsportā€ built on the suffering of animals. His antics with cow dung aren’t therefore very surprising, nor his support of regressive sales taxes.
