The Kobach commission effort to find voter fraud where there is abundant proof that little or none exists, may be linked to NHS’s unwillingness to investigate possible hacking of the voting machines. The question is: If the hacking got far enough to damage Clinton in the minds of voters, why would it stop at the voting machine? Why not finish the job, i.e., change the votes?
This revelation that the NHS has not checked any of the voting machines since the election sheds new light on the WH’s possible reason for establishing a commission to investigate the ‘integrity’ of our elections. It’s another timely distraction by this administration.
I’m afraid that more than one shoe will drop in the coming months and years.
Regarding the novel suggestion that a paper record of votes be preserved; I’ve never had a page of a legal pad crash or be corrupted. Furthermore, no one from outside my office has remotely changed what’s on the page. Makes you go, hmmmmm.
I hate to say this, but if Russians could breach our voting machines, Republicans could too. There has been a lot written about them since 2004 and I would not put it past them. We already know Republicans “know in their hearts” that they are the only people who should have any power in this country.
So does the DHS not want us to know whether voting machines have been hacked because Republicans don’t want anyone to find out they’ve been doing it for years?
To summarize: 1) It is pretty easy to hack individual voting and tabulation machines. 2) Russians are very sophisticated with their hacking and hacked things that are much harder to get into. 3) The Russians preferred Trump and meddled in various aspects of the election process. 4) We really don’t have a way to verify that no hacking of voting equipment has taken place.
So, basically were are to believe the Russians have the wherewithal and motivation to do it, but decided not to…because?
ergo…nothing to see here, voting is completely legit.
It’s time for DHS to be dismantled.
It’s time to rid the nation of the conservative cancer that destroys everything it touches.
It’s time to take the Electoral College apart and throw away the pieces.
It’s time to return to paper ballots that had better match electronic ballot. For every vote cast electronically two paper receipts can be generated - one for the State and one for the Voter. That paper ballot and the electronic ballot should have a tracking number. And that tracking number should be searchable on a Federal databse. That way if you don’t see your vote tallied you can raise hell.
It’s time for single payer health. I’m sick and tired of my health being some politicians meal ticket.
It’s time to revolt against those who we know are creating the problems in this nation.
And it’s time to put an end to it for at least 3 generations.
You know damn well that the voting machines were hacked, and tampered with by the republicONz, otherwise they would have ordered an examination of them by now.
Doesn’t this statement just ooze with ridiculousness:
“In a September 2016 Intelligence Assessment, DHS and our partners determined that there was no indication that adversaries were planning cyber activity that would change the outcome of the coming US election.”
So since we didn’t have any evidence of their “plan” we shouldn’t look to see if there was any breach?
Everybody just needs to calm down! As soon as Republicans can ensure the signs of hacking are erased DHS will inspect them. Just be patient, ferchrissake!
The Trump Administration, as soon as it was sworn in, promptly established a Presidential Commission to investigate a mythical voter fraud problem that is based on a bogus study floated and assiduously promoted by the GOP and its propaganda media complex in the months before the election.
The Trump Administration has not and apparently has no intention of appointing any commission to study the Russian interference in our democracy. The GOP, which IS cheating with their gerrymandering and which stole the Presidential election that resulted in 8 years of GWB, has no intention of allowing state voting infrastructure to be scrutinized.
Did you notice in the article, that the resistance starts and is most intense at the local voter officials level, which is heavily controlled by Republicans. They have the legal authority to manage voting and will fight any attempt to review “their” machines functionality.
Philosophically, I somewhat support this and can only hope that we can maintain that same level of control with out education systems.
We had a real, live voter fraud case prosecuted here in central Pennsylvania yesterday. A Republican election worker who is also a constable was confronted by a voter who wasn’t actually registered in that district but he decided to personally accompany him to a voting booth to cast his ballot anyway. This was, ostensibly, reported by the other poll workers.
The accused showed up for his day in court wearing his constable uniform, was sent home to change and came back in his Mason’s tuxedo and top hat. Just your average trump enthusiast.
I am skeptical of the results in PA, however from various on-the-ground reports from friends-- unusually long lines in rural areas and not much of a line where I vote myself–at a college campus.
Why would anyone think that voting machines weren’t breached? The Russians targeted voting machines in 39 states and then Trump pulled out a miracle victory against all odds–winning every single swing state by around 1%… Honestly can anyone in their right minds not think these issues aren’t related? It is of course possible that vote totals were not changed, but the rational bet would be that they were.
What makes me suspicious is all the data that favored Hillary and Democrats along with Pennsylvania having a history of voting mostly blue, Trump predicted he’d win it before the election. Stein was polling at about one percent in PA. and her vote total was .08 percent. Why were Hillary’s numbers so far off?
ETA: Gary Johnson was polling at about 8%, his vote total was way off at about two and a half percent. Just wondering if they could’ve flipped some Johnson votes to Trump.
Those of us on the ground and on the inside in red state elections, have known for a long time how easy it would be to mess with the computer voting systems. The folks in charge have no idea where the weaknesses are. They, like DHS, have to tell us everything fine and wonderful, or else their whole claim to legal victory and rule would be suspect. I’ve seen with my own eyes conflicting data from my own precinct.
No-Drama Obama should have figured out there’s an exception to every rule and allowed some drama when he realized that Russia/Trump were stealing the election and Russia was hacking the vote. But no…we needed an orderly transition…into chaos.
