Oh, FFS.
This is actually pretty damn effective.
So bad it’s good!
If the goal is to get his name out there, he’s succeeded. If he can follow up with something good now that he’s known, it might be smart.
Apparently from the Tweets, this ad fried a few wingnuts. The more it bothers them, the better. Helmer’s got a year to minimize the negative effects if any. That works for me.
No, just so bad it is bad. There is no way to depict this as other than miserable.
Typical Democrat: the material is already there, written for you to run against these sonsofbitches and you wanna screw around with it for something stupid?
Call me old-fashioned but I’m leery of deliberately releasing something that’s so bad it’s good. I think it’s preferable to get people talking about you with promotional pieces that are so good they’re good.
I can take the opposite argument seriously. But I can’t embrace the technique myself.
Does anyone know what the district is like?
Yeah, it’s bad. Just plain bad.
Even so, this guy apparently has nothing to lose (as far as his campaign goes, anyway), and as for generating interest, this is a home run.
Intentionally/unintentionally, the interest is now there that wasn’t before, and that’s good for him.
Judging from this ad, however, I doubt he’ll be able to capitalize.
Apparently some people have forgotten the 2016 election and how Bad is what wins elections now. NOBODY will be able to depict him as a stiff, out-of-touch elitist snob without being followed by gales of laughter. But, that said, if his message is Centrism Uber Alles, he’s toast. Given the choice between a Republican’t and a Republican’t-Lite Dem, people will elect the real Republican’t every time…
The ad’s effective at getting his name out there. I also found myself watching it just because it quickly got to be so bad that I was just staring at the screen in disbelief—so it’s got that hook, but I doubt it’s got any rewatchability, which means he needs to get something else out there for any real saturation efforts. He also showed a level of self-awareness and humor when he included ‘bad singing’ in the list of things he approves of at the end.
That said… wow. Wow, that was cringe-y. But hey, he owned it. Top to bottom, he owned that shit, and props to him for showing he’s not afraid to look like an idiot if that’s what it takes.
So is this an attempt to claim the centrist mantle, or just a stab at debunk hers? He definitely needs more exposure.
I actually kind of like it…
He makes a few simple points very clear:
- The incumbent sides with Repubs on key issues
- He does not
- He is a veteran…
- … and also seems like a nice guy.
Traditional political ads get tuned out because they are BORING. In my opinion this leans more towards genius.
As someone on Twitter implied, it is marketing genius. Everybody will have to watch it.
Frankly, I did not think it as bad as some have said, it certainly is original, good production quality, got in a few political points, and he is honest (self-effacing?) at the end with the acknowledgement of “bad singing”.
As berthers said, he needs to
I think he will.
And if it’s used against him, he can laugh it off as “I’m not going to Congress to serenade anyone… let’s talk about the serious issues.”
I hope you are right. It did increase his name recognition, I’ll say that.
As an old fogey myself, I find it creative and cute! Nothing wrong with thinking outside of the box.
Holy shit are we fucked in 2018.
“You’ve Lost That Centrist Feelin’”
/facepalm
I’d vomit, but this caramel macchiato is too yummy.
Would it be sexist of me to say “shirtless” exposure?
