How many discussions did all of us posting here have in the last week to keep some project on track? And here we have a press conference about trade negotiations between the world’s two largest economies and the president and his trade representative are literally bickering about what a term they’re using means. They haven’t discussed even the most basic things about the situation. Trump’s winging it like a middle-schooler doing a book report for a book he hasn’t read.

I always (privately) counsel my employees to NEVER argue in front of guests.

It is unseemly and casts doubt on the organization’s cohesion.

Exactly so.

Definitely many fewer times than how often everyone else has characterized him as a pure unadulterated incarnation of evil.

Trump’s always been a little weak on that “understanding” stuff.

Another random memo of Trump not understanding.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) is a type of agreement between two (bilateral) or more (multilateral) parties. It expresses a convergence of will between the parties, indicating an intended common line of action. It is often used either in cases where parties do not imply a legal commitment or in situations where the parties cannot create a legally enforceable agreement.

Trump hears “memorandum” and thinks that it must be “just a memo” but as it says above it’s an agreement and in some cases the most formal agreement possible.

It’s like a combination of Emily Litella and a 70 year old Queens retiree in the Oval Office yelling at the world as if it’s a giant TV.

Bloc would hit $23 billion of U.S. goods in case of car duties
Tariff threat made in parellel to push for free-trade accord

Caterpillar Inc. trucks, Xerox Corp. machines and Samsonite International SA luggage are among U.S. goods that would face retaliatory European Union tariffs should President Donald Trump follow through on a threat to impose automotive duties against the bloc, according to a senior EU official.

The person commented Friday on the condition of anonymity because the tit-for-tat list drawn up by the European Commission, the EU’s executive arm in Brussels, is still a confidential draft

“I don’t like MOUs because they don’t mean anything,” Trump said…

Thousands of contractors will attest to the fact that Contracts don’t mean anything to Trump, either.

“Holy Chairman Mao Doing The Watusi, what a moron! Who knew fucking over Trump was going to be this easy?”, thought every member of the Chinese trade delegation.

That’s why his base relates to him. Arguably, he would not have gained the presidency without this trait, which says as much about us (not us as in us here, but as collective whole) as a nation as it does about him.

ETA. Some states still don’t get it.
