My wife and 10-yr old daughter left the house this morning to join the San Diego march. I love them for it.

Please let us find a way to channel this energy into actual turnout for midterms and local elections.

Good on them. Considering the massive destruction the Rethugs are going to impose on this country, I think it’s really important that they get the message that it won’t happen without a fight.

When you’ve just been punched hard in a fight with a bully, the first thing you do is deflect and move. Then you gather your wits. Then you counterpunch.

This is the first step. The way to turn this turnout into turnout is for people to turn out.

Lawyers out there - does that executive order on Obamacare look like as much of a mess to you as it does to me?

Especially this:

shall exercise all authority and discretion available to them to waive, defer, grant exemptions from, or delay the implementation of any provision or requirement of the Act that would impose a fiscal burden on any State or a cost, fee, tax, penalty, or regulatory burden on individuals, families, healthcare providers, health insurers, patients, recipients of healthcare services, purchasers of health insurance, or makers of medical devices, products, or medications.

Some of those parties are on opposite sides of the table when you start monkeying with costs, fees, taxes, penalties, or regulatory burdens.

Not a lawyer, but the lawyerly analyses I’ve seen (there is one on Vox) suggest that it’s a hot mess of an order.

Depending on how the new Sec’t’y of HHS handles the power for hardship waivers on the penalty for individuals it could collapse the market quickly (an ask-and-you-shall-receive approach) or it could just be the opening salvo and not much changes while they go through the rule-making process.

Not sure what real-world effects this will have, but with all the intense focus on the technicalities of statutory repeal/replace actions, I think it’s more for the symbolism of showing his supporters he did something on Day One.

What is certain, however, is that just below his signature is the following:

Re: attendance

That’s an understatement.

Im at the Washington monument grounds and im watching protesters walking by it.

I had just finished their route,

Gobblygook. Vaguer than vague, if that is possible, but it is Trump’s effort to make his supporters think he has fulfilled a campaign promise to “repeal” Obamacare on Day One."

Totally agree. It’s also important to show that a variety of Americans are protesting not just PoC, just Dems, just young women (or women at all!). The Rethugs can only ignore but so much of it., And it gives our side a boost of enthusiasm and focus.

This is great. Very encouraging for the resistance. Yet here is a very interesting article on subconscious gender bias, and its probable role among conservative women esp. conservative white women in electing the uber anti-feminist.

Plus the satellite rallies are great. National and local action are going to be key.

I don’t know what the leading chants are in D.C., but I think I know which one would resonate most with Trump:

O --VER – RA – TED!!!

There are "free Melania " signs at the march.
