Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump railed against the Iran nuclear deal Tuesday, calling the Obama administration-negotiated deal as “insane” and “ridiculous” while seated next to French President Emmanuel Macron in the Oval Office.
The outburst proved that a dinner of Dover sole and a glitzy military welcome could not paper over the two leaders’ differences as they begin intensive talks on Iran and Syria.
Trump offered scant assurances to Macron that he was reconsidering his pledge to exit the agreement.
“People know my views on the Iran deal,” Trump said. “It was a terrible deal. It should have never been made.”
It was an auspicious start to Trump’s inaugural state visit, which has been in the works for months. Earlier in the day, the two men put forward an elaborate show of friendship on the South Lawn, reviewing cordons of troops in formation and recalling the long history between the US and France.
But moments later, Trump was putting to rest any notion he might be swayed on the Iran deal, which Macron hopes to salvage, perhaps by altering its terms.
So, Macron gets told publicly to piss off before the first serious head to head meeting has even occured. Hope the plane ride was pleasurable at least.I wish I could have a transcript of Macron’s thoughts as Trump went off on his familiar diatribe about “obstructionist” Democrats. I need to work on my French swears.

I burst out laughing during the handshake. Macron was not letting Trump win, and then he clapped him on the back like “Good show, son.”
I noticed in some of the clips of the 2 couples walking around yesterday that the french couple were typically holding hands and the Trumps were not.So fucking funny.
