Here’s the prepared Sanders’s remark if you are not watching it live.
Hee hee!
looking forward to the day when you sore winners will let it go
A strong endorsement, I should say, in that it’s not just anti-Trump (strong enough to confuse dudobros). Hopefully this helps persuade those remaining persuadable.
Meanwhile, Donald the Twit is tweeting:
Bernie Sanders, who has lost most of his leverage, has totally sold out to Crooked Hillary Clinton. He will endorse her today - fans angry!
I am somewhat surprised that Bernie Sanders was not true to himself and his supporters. They are not happy that he is selling out!
So people are either with the Democrats or they are providing de facto support to Trump who calls Senator Sanders’ supporters “fans” and calls Bernie a “sell out”.
I was critical of Hillary and her supporters when she held out long after it was clear that she lost the race against Obama in 2008. Even today as a Hillary supporter that still taints my support for her. Now Bernie has done the same, pushing it even further than Hillary while not even being as close as she was in the race. I appreciate Bernie and his supporters now facing the reality that most of us knew months ago, but you’ve earned the criticism that you are now getting. Just like with the actions of Hillary in 2008, that criticism isn’t going to go away any time soon, if it ever will.
The best Bernie can do is what Hillary did. Build a new foundation of support to overshadow past mistakes. He needs to unequivocally support the democratic nominee which is Hillary and get her elected. What he and his supporters can’t do is continue to complain about being called out for their past mistakes. If that is all you have to give to the Democratic party then you deserve all the criticism coming your way.
I wasn’t actually talking about Hillary or Sanders supporters, I know many in both camps who have turned the other cheek, most Sanders supporters were already backing Clinton before this announcement. I’m writing about those on this site who can’t let their spite die.
And yeah, I do think it is more incumbent on the winners to turn the other cheek, show a little grace and let those took a big loss get over it. Much as Hillary Clinton has done for the last month towards Bernie.
Yes because its all about Bernie and his supporters right? Not about the issues they support, last time i checked there still is a election in Nov that needs winning. Hillary has turned her check so many times and has handled Sanders and his supporters very softly, but honestly Sanders supporters need to grow up and if they actually care about the things they claim to support they need to actually work towards them instead of just whining that a unicorn didn’t magically come down and do it for them.
There was no pussyfooting around, that was about a strong an endorsement as I’ve ever heard short of “marry me”
Good on ya Senator
I agree - Sanders did a brilliant job and I’m grateful to see him join Hillary to defeat Cheeto Mousselini in November!
Fair points, and i appreciate your tone.
I do think too much attention is focused on what is happening day to day of the campaign, especially before Labor day and the conventions. As long as a united front is show by the convention, personally don’t believe it makes much difference.
The difference between this primary and others, was the amount that it was about issues, rather than personalities. Obama and Clinton had pretty much the same platform (the biggest difference was probably mandatory health insurance, which Clinton was right about). It was about personality and termperment. This was very much a primary fought by wings of the party. I believe this will continue beyond this election, as I think the differences are real and have legs.
So I think it was comparatively easy for Clinton to one day promise to fight on until all florida and michigan votes were counted, and then turn on a dime a week later and endorse Obama. I do think the policy concessions and platform roll-out, with Sanders slowly walking back the heat of the primary (and his personal animosity, which I never liked) will be more effective in uniting the party than an endorsement the day after DC would have been.
We will be a united party party come November, any holdouts were never actually democrats. They were the same people how voted for Jill Stein last election, or didn’t vote at all.
Also, i’m a Clinton supporter, I was a Sanders supporter, but switched after Indiana voted (i’m a hoosier).
I expect that strategy was a big part of their initial meeting after DC.
The slow boil was a deft political move on the part of both campaigns. Otherwise the only HRC news in the headlines would be email related.
I had presumed they would hold on to stomp on Trumps VP announcement. Perhaps they figured Trump’s VP announce would role right into RNC coverage and the Bernie endorsement would get lost.
Seems the professionals know what they are doing.
Yep, Hillary turned the other cheek and made concessions for about a month, and was rewarded with a rousing endorsement. MLK was right, but I understand how waiting a month is a way too much for you. But now, maybe you could give his remaining supporters 72 hours to take in his speech before going on the attack again. I have family who said they would never vote for Hillary, making sounds about voting for her now.
It was about the issues (but yeah, for some a heated campaign can get in the way of the big picture), and a number of planks of the platform were released in the last week which are between Sanders and Hillaries positions. So that seems like a win for the left of the party. As a leftist i’m happy with the outcome of the Primary. I would have preferred Sanders, but Hillary won fair and square and we had good discussions about the future of the party. Now we look poised to keep the white house.
Don’t worry and be happy.
