Discussion: WATCH LIVE: President Trump Announces His SCOTUS Pick At 8 P.M. ET

Gorsuch’s mother, Anne Burford Gorsuch, ran the Environmental Protection Agency at the outset of the Reagan administration. She was forced to resign in 1983, facing a criminal investigation and a House contempt of Congress citation over records related to alleged political favoritism in toxic-waste cleanups. She maintained her innocence and was never charged.

Other rulings give conservatives confidence that Gorsuch is a strong supporter of religious freedom rights. Last September, he joined a dissent arguing that requirements for contraception coverage in Obamacare ran roughshod over the rights of religious non-profits.

Gorsuch also wrote a 2000 law journal article and a 2006 book arguing strongly against assisted-suicide laws. The practice of allowing the terminally ill to end their lives is now legal in six states and is on the verge of being legalized in Washington, D.C.

Actually, Trump’s degree (as a BA) was not awarded by the Wharton Business School at all. He “earned” a degree from the University of Pennsylvania and took a few business courses. I am always amazed that he has gotten away with this misrepresentation.

Oh just want to thank all the people who said Hillary was just as bad as drump, for the 30 years this guy is likely to be on the court instead of another liberal on the court… We could of took control of decades… but no…

Like Justice Scalia, he sometimes reaches results that favor liberals when he thinks the history or text of the Constitution or the law require it, especially in areas like criminal law or the rights of religious minorities, but unlike Scalia he’s less willing to defer to regulations and might be more willing to second-guess Trump’s regulatory decision.”

Eeeeh…might be more of a first guess.

So I listened to about 5 minutes of this before I realized what it was. What stuck me as odd is that Trump’s public addresses have applause breaks. I don’t recall if I’ve ever heard another president who, while addressing the country outside of the State of the Union, have applause breaks. He did it for the CIA speech and now this one. Does anyone know if that is uncommon?

On a positive note, at least he’s not a graduate of either Liberty University or Trump University. And he might help constrain some of Bannon/Trump’s worst executive power grabs. Other than that, not so great. But, will it take the nuclear option to get him in, even though he had unanimous confirmation for 10th Circuit?

Just quotes from the Politico article I posted…

Friends,

Those of us saying “Excellent choice” or “Nice selection” are talking about bourbon, not Nazi judges.

Priorities.

Not a criticism, a Trump joke.

Those who pay attention to Foggy Bottom’s doings are gonna be seeing a whole bunch of empty parking spaces in coming days. And a parade of folk carrying boxes of their desk top trinkets and photos home. Think of all the empty offices… 900+.

I see they invited the usual claque to provide sustained applause on cue. Most of the audience did not clap when the usurper entered. They only rose to applaud when Judge Gorsuch was introduced.

Figured as much, btw Trump joke is redundant. Just sayin’…

Sorry to correct you but Comrade Coir Coif’s diploma is from University of Pennsylvania. He merely attended a couple of classes offered by The Wharton School, classes any undergraduate could take.

This article says he did in fact graduate from Wharton:

Trump graduated in 1968 from Wharton, Penn’s school of business.

This stands: Fun Fact: He has crowed, repeatedly, that he graduated “at the top of his class” yet his name doesn’t appear on a single Dean’s List issued during the time he attended UPenn. Was he too modest to allow the Dean to trumpet his considerable achievements?

Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3)-

“No matter who President Trump picks in tonight’s reality show ceremony, Senate Democrats owe him nothing more than the consideration Merrick Garland got.”

My congressman should carry mics around in his pocket so he’ll always have one to drop.
