Because this is the most pressing issue in America.
Well, that, and the fact that unlike the usual Republican offender Franken will probably stand up there and actually talk about it. Here’s hoping it doesn’t make things worse.
This morning an interviewee on NPR was saying that the Franken actions should be treated with equal discretion as those of Republican offenders. What lacked in her statements was the politically deniable factor that the incidents are not of equal offense.
Some phrases it would be best for him to avoid: “I feel badly” (too late!); “I’m just groping for an answer here”; “Americans are feeling more and more squeezed these days.”
Smokey Joe Barton, Texas representative and all-around dick-head!
Inquiring minds want to know what the House going to do about Barton and his dic pictures?
All this groping talk is a pain in the ass…I’m being treated like a dick…these are hard questions to come to grips with…none of the accusations gives me a good feeling…
Women haveing to put up with bs from men? No maybe not the most pressing, but certainly a nation wide issue and something women should not have to just put up with.
My guess is he knows some of what he’s done wasn’t right even if done jokingly, but he doesn’t want to stop doing the good things he’s doing, especially if he apologizes and stops doing it.
Live video link doesn’t work here on my browser in the office.
Anyone have a working link and/or give us a play-by-play?
While I understand that this story attracts a lot of clicks for TPM, I am pretty sure the most important story today and for the rest of the week is the Senate tax cut bill where Republican senators are going to hand 1.5 trillion to its contributors.
And this, folks, is why Donald Trump is our current President. We no longer have the ability to differentiate the important from the trivial. When a private email server is considered no different than flat out conspiring with a foreign power to undermine our democracy and touching a butt several years ago a no different than deliberately trying to molest teenagers, common sense has lost. It’s over people.
Exactly - that’s what I was trying to say and didn’t get it said right.
It’s a deliberate confusing of distinctions to the point where people begin to question right and wrong. It’s very Russian.
But it’s not over - you and I can see what is happening and if some of us see it then it’s not over. Goddamn it pick yourselves up off the fainting couch. We have a war to fight here against Putin and the people who work for him.
I think the vast majority of women are saying WTF to this whole Franken butt touching issue. The media wants to push controversy and conflict (not to mention sexual innuendo of any type) and this story plays into all of the narratives they love the most. They know it’s bullshit; we know it’s bullshit; but it’s bullshit that generates clicks and heated conversations, so just run with it and try not to think. That’s today’s news media in a nutshell.
There are lots of things that are important. Sexual harassment is important, fighting tRump is important. Sometimes, as in the case of Al Franken, important political issues align imperfectly. That does not mean you take a pass on one or the other issue. Respectfully, I disagree. Sexual harassment is an important issue for women and has been long before tRump was elected and it will probably be an important issue long after his sorry ass is out of the WH. If we don’t fight it now, when?
