500,000 more people watched the first night of the Democratic National Convention compared to those who tuned in for the first night of the Republican National Convention.

So much for Trump being a media master.

I wrote elsewhere that the entire evening was really well engineered to allow the steam to dissipate.

I think that they were hoping that Cummings’ dignity would override some of the anger of the DNC emails and he would be respected.

As a Sanders’ supporter, I was mortified by his treatment by the idiot portion of the delegates who acted like children.

Jerry Brown does the California tally.

Good to see that man.

I understand that 102-year-old honorary AZ delegate remembers the 19th Amendment being ratified.

Talk about living history.

Especially appropriate for the Clinton nomination!

Perplexing, no? It makes one wonder (for some Bernie supporters at least) how much of their support is policy based and how much is based primarily on “devotion” to Bernie himself.

Posted this in another thread:

Anecdotal for sure, not not really that dispositive per se. But does fit with what you are saying.

There are certain people who just have a visceral dislike for Hillary. There is no rational reason behind their feelings, they just don’t like her and don’t want to vote for her; nothing more.

I know. And sometimes if you ask them to define the basis for their negative feelings, they can’t even articulate them beyond a generalized adjective.

Amazingly, not yet…

Yeah, I’ve talked with some of those people as well : (

That is a good sign.

I will gladly accept and be happy about being proven wrong on this.

I understand the GOP is all about States’ Rights.

Statehood for DC?

Not so much…

Of course. That would be two Democratic Senators and a House seat that would still be in Democratic hands as the sun burned out.

The entire first day was given over to that and the speaker line up reflects that.

The rest of the convention is about Hillary and it’s well stage managed to slide into that,

OT. I went up to Cheyenne Frontier Days this weekend and Sen. Barrasso made an appearance in the announcer’s booth. He was asked some inane question about the federal government and said “Give us our air, our water, our land and our guns and leave us alone.”

I’ll take the Tetons, Yellowstone, Medicine Bow and our tax dollars and he can have what’s left.

I’m I were you, I’d hold onto the Wind River Range as well.

Minnesota casts with Franken over Klobuchar’s shoulder,

Cheers for both candidates from the floor.
