What’s really infuriating about how the press handles the Trump campaign is they always seem to think some sort of change will happen that will finally reveal the “True Trump”, not the train wreck we’ve seen for over a year. So, presumably, if tomorrow Trump recanted all his misogyny, racism, mendacity, birtherism the press would say, “OK, everyone, we knew it all along; this is a measured, reasoned man who is now very presidential”. Holy crap, media, this guy is exactly who he proudly claims to be and any attempt at projecting another persona is pure cynical horse manure. The press should stop asking Trump’s surrogates to parse and explain his insane blathering. Hillary will become president and Drumpf will move on to his next fraud. Done and done.
I don’t have any more polygraphic insight into Megyn Kelly’s motivations and true feelings than anyone else does. But something about her body English and general reactions to the real dumb stuff strikes me as a kind of theater criticism, where she’s saying OMG you’re not even trying you have to at least try to make it sound good. She lives in a world of constant spin and tendentiousness, and she’s lived in it comfortably for a long time, as opposed to, say, Shep Smith who seems to genuinely break out now and then. So maybe, just to reconcile what seems not to fit, she’s not so much a secret agent for the reality-based world so much as she’s saying, “God, you Trump people really suck at this.” Just a theory for consideration.

Agreed. It’s more “when you come on my show to lie, please bring your ‘A Game’ and leave that lame, transparently amateur lying at home.”, than actually calling them out on falsehoods.
Trump’s comments hurt him with women…but they hurt him with some men too. I mean, 5 weeks to the election, and he wastes one of them in a petty vendetta against a former beauty queen who isn’t in the contest. Like, what’s going to happen when he’s POTUS? He cannot let petty grievances go and focus on the important stuff. So, here’s what I imagine in my head happening with President Trump::
POTUS Advisor: “Mr. President, there’s a crisis in the Middle East that requires your immediate attention.”
Trump: “I’m in the middle of an epic twitter feud with a former beauty contest winner. It’ll have to wait a week.”
No question that Kelly is smart, capable of journalism, and occasionally uses her mean girl powers for good, but I would hope that her “Jesus was white!” rant during Faux News’ annual War on the War on Christmas a few years ago would disqualify her from working at a more mainstream media outlet.

My take, as I noted in a post yesterday, is thacTrump really ticked her off when he went after her after the debate that she moderated. Since then, Kelly has been going after his surrogates on a regular basis.
You do make a good point: Trump’s folks are transparently lousy at spinning his stuff and it must be very awkward for a supposed reporter to sit there and treat that gibberish seriously, knowing all the time that you look incompetent while doing so.
As for the pay … wait until after election day. Trump will probably say she did a bad job and stiff her.

The little nugget about Putin is what I find fascinating.
I still say what is most inexplicable is this Putin thing. NOBODY in the campaign, including Pence, is allowed to make any disparaging remarks about Putin. Nobody.
Praising Putin is one of the campaign’s core fundamentals. No room within the campaign for disagreement on this position.
