The Republican party won’t win unless it convinces its base that it is in constant danger and the only way to protect themselves is to vote Republican.
I’m no expert either, but from what I understand gentile converts to Christianity were excused in the early years, like at the Council of Jerusalem in the first century, from having to follow the laws in the Torah. More broadly, yes, of course you can’t legitimately pick and choose stuff you find in the Bible to call “Biblical” and unquestioned for eternity when the reality of what it says is often vague and contradictory. But it’s human nature to do this and arguing that it’s nuts won’t make people stop. I’m sure if I wanted to I could look in the Bible and find powerful arguments for Ford versus Chevy and vice-versa.
Stossel is a “liberal”- faux or otherwise?
Respect is something earned, not something given by default.
If BIll wants my respect, let him follow in the footsteps of his Pope, a man who has earned my deep respect.
Until then? I agree with Stossel’s description: Bill’s a 10-foot crybaby.
John Stossel said something I agree with? Give me a break.
All respect has to be earned.
Let us not forget that the only reason Stossel is saying this is because he’s Jewish and his ox is being gored. This isn’t John Stossel calling bullshit on Bill O’Reilly’s victimization show. It’s Stossel and O’Reilly arguing over which of them is the real victim here. Both of them still fundamentally agree that all those so-called “victims” we bleeding hearts are always mewlin’ about had it comin’ to 'em and will set aside their differences to blame those victims for their problems without hesitation.
Well good ol’ Blabber-mouth Bill is right about one thing, progressive secularists like me do think religion stands in the way of gay marriage and all of the things that “secularists want”: like equality and fairness, altruism and humanism.
The good deeds of religion come nowhere close to outweighing all of the evil that has been / is being done by religions.
John, Billo was hired to give voice to 70 year old crybabies. He is just working here, move along and let the man do his job. Pointing out the truth gets in the way of the guy making a living.
I wonder why fundamentalist Christians keep talking about the “Judeo” Christian tradition when American Jews overwhelmingly support marriage equality a level that is only second to LGBT folks themselves. Somewhere at around 80%. Additionally, American Jews feel very strongly about issues of social justice, so I don’t believe for a minute that the fundamentalist Christian idea of a “Judeo” value is at all what they think it is. They’re just trying to make their tent look big! Overcompensating or something.
Additionally, the vast majority of Christians and even Catholics have issues with the politics of the religious right, who are really in the minority, but have lots of money and talk big.
So, Bill O’Reilly’s real issue here is with whomever is booking guests for his show. Next time he asks for a secular progressive, get him one!
“Judeo Christian” is a term invented by Christians so they can appear inclusive when they are fighting for Christian privilege.
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir O’Rielly, standing by his argument when challenged:
Billo: It’s WAR!!! We’re literally being killed!!!
Stossel: Um, no, you big crybaby.
Billo: OK, verbally killed then!!!
(whatever that means)
Stossel: Uh, no.
Billo: But, but, unfettered abortions!!!
Stossel: Try again
Billo: Well we’re not being respected!!!
Gee, i wonder why nobody respects you???
I can’t help but play along and add the obvious “jobs program,” “reform,” and “homeland security.”
I need to start a band now, just so that I can name it 10 foot tall crybaby. What a great description.
American conservatives shouldn’t name-drop “Judeo” unless they’re issuing a joint statement with a Rabbi or something. It just sounds fake and gratuitous.
O’Reilly lamented that “secularists” want “unfettered abortion” and “gay marriage.”
Okay, so even if this is a true statement, the religious freedom afforded to Mr. O’Reilly and everyone else in this country allows him and them to not get an abortion or a gay marriage.
Your religious freedom does not extend to forcing everyone else to behave as if they followed the same religion you do. By that logic, there’s an endless list of things that would be prohibited in the name of “religious freedom.”
Fear mongering 101:
“Your ‘war on Christianity’ — you’re just a
10-foot-tall crybaby,” Stossel told O’Reilly. “It’s not so bad.
Christians aren’t being killed.”
“Not yet,” O’Reilly jumped into say."
"Nuf said.
Then again Stossel is no gem.
I hate when that happens.
Oreilly can’t handle being disagreed with and that’s about it. He wants to make his declarations then sit back and loofah himself. He is arguing religion in politics like that’s all good first off, and it just isn’t, his entire premise is patently wrong. Then he’s whining that his group is being picked on as he continues bashing the opposition without the slightest bit of irony or whiplash.
Christianity starts the wars and is basically out to recruit new soldiers or smite them causing the conflict. If the Oreilly styled Christians don’t want their war to come back at them, they could just stop pushing forward with their attack plan. Problem solved.
