Discussion: Wasserman Schultz Dismisses DNC Vice-Chairs' Call For More Debates

This kills me…

It’s so transparent that this is to protect Hillary from other candidates gaining traction. The only ones that see this as OK are Hillary supporters.

This isn’t even actually good for her as it also may backfire, if the recent IA and NH polls are to be believed, she may not have the chance to slow Bernie’s momentum, which he could plausibly ride further than these 2 States.

Worse still, is it may just have the desired effect whilst allowing repubs to suck up the oxygen in the mean time.

More debates equals more free media… The more the merrier…

I can see repubs wanting to limit their debates as they embarrass the party, given the unpopularity of their positions. The Democrats don’t have that worry.

Could not agree more…

I could call Joe balding in the same derogatory and sexist way you deemed HRC overweight but neither characteristic has anything to do with governing. We can no longer expect “excitement” over any candidate. The Democratic Party had its once in a lifetime exciting candidate with BHO and no one, male or female, will ever come our way again.

“smacks of Big Bossism”…

Also “Turd-blossomism”

I agree with this. And, having said that, why do the Dems need more debates? To paraphrase the saying, it seems like our opponents have handed themselves an anvil. Why not just get out of their way? It’s not like we’re not having any debates. Just enough to get our candidates out there and done.

“sexist way you deemed HRC overweight” Look, I’m with you on Barack. Best President since who? FDR? Honest Abe? I am so delighted to have lived under his Presidency.

It’s not sexist to say you need to control your weight if want to win. All the men do this. Please look around. I understand why you sniped liked this, but it’s not right, fair, or realistic. And I do greatly respect you.

I agree the o erweight comment wasn’t relevant…

That said, his points regarding excitement stand. (as does yours regarding BHO) we may not see another person as exciting, but we should be excited for our candidates. (i know you are excited for Hillary, I’m for Bernie now and excited, but could get there about Hillary should she win the primary)

I think seeing her in action in more debates could help her in the excitement department.

Sorry to double down, but you can’t call him fat. Unlike one’s weight, baldness cannot be much controlled.

With great respect and sincerely no intention to offend, I think it’s highly relevant. Highly. And a basic, basic issue in campaigning.

Contrast. (this helps insulate the “both sides” B.S.)

That doesn’t cut it with me nor should it with anyone or our side. We know the B.S. games the media plays against democrats, and headroom to insulate from any contrived “October surprise” is needed IMHO. It’s hard to know exactly where “just enough” resides.

Cheers

Fair enough, a caveat to your point about how it shouldn’t matter and the clear double standard women face would have better communicated your underlying (and valid) points

I’ve been saying this for a while now…DWS is not good at this job and should be replaced. She should have been replaced after the 2012 fiasco where democrats lost the Senate. This is just more proof. Hillary is going to replace her anyway if she wins. Why not do it now.

Encyclopedic and yet, at critical moments, totally wrong!

I like HRC. I like Bernie. I like Joe.

In all cases, their sycophants make me want to hurl.

There’s a whiff of Trump’s remarks about Fiorina’s hair and O’Donnell’s appearance going on here. Not necessary and serves no purpose. Moreover women of her age frequently have weight gain issues and difficulty losing weight unless they work out vigorously on a daily basis at a gym or other cardio activities.

It does sound like the interest is to get the party brand out more, but that’s not something a debate does. If folks aren’t going to pay attention to the first, what, 9 - 12 hours of debate, what makes them think doubling that will draw independent or undecided voters’ interest?

Wasn’t it Lincoln who said something to the effect that a 2 hour debate takes him 15 minutes of preparation, whereas a 15 minute debate takes him 2 days of preparation?

A sycophant is quite different from a supporter and that’s what I am.

What is she afraid of?

The only people that give a shit about wanting more Democratic debates are people that have an axe to grind against Clinton, someone with a vested interest in someone else’s campaign or the Heathers media types that loves to stir the clichéd “Democrats in disarray” memes.

That may be true, and it may be unfair and beneath us as feminists to buy into this sort of thing, but it’s not beneath a whole bunch of people.

I agree with Overreach that it’s relevant, much as I’d like it not to be. Balding is not used as a barb the way weight is, and it’s nowhere near as effective. There’s a reason it’s a common attack against Christie, and there’s a reason that Kim Davis is ridiculed as much for her looks as for her radical ignorance and hate. It works. Maybe I’m being too deferent to Overreach here, but we still care as much about what Michelle is wearing as we do about her policy initiatives. We do care, whether we like it or not. We do care that Bob Dole’s arm doesn’t work. We do care that Trump’s hair is sentient.

I yearn for the day when people like Hillary are judged on their accomplishments and not on their looks, but in this age she is judged on both.

If there are axes to grind, let them be ground. I’d rather not take a dull one to the general.
