Discussion: Washington Supreme Court Rules That The Death Penalty Is Unconstitutional

Yeah I should have paid closer attention - see you do know something I don’t know.

I think you’re probably right here.

I like the way you think…

I think on the grounds of moral consistency, pro-life evangelicals should be applauding this result. My guess is they wont.

No hypocrisy here. They want to punish minorities and the poor with unfair trials, police and prosecutorial misconduct while they give a pass for the same crimes to white people and the rich.

All I’m saying is that by our laws, treason is a capital crime that allows the death penalty after a fair trial. And I think they deserve a fair trial…it’s just that they’re guilty as fuck and a bunch of traitors.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with any of that. I will all though, that I would literally throw a party and it would make my absolute day if we can hang some of these traitors.

Kav and friends will uphold the DP – because the yahoos love it.

Few years back someone looked at 10 capital cases in TX with private lawyers and 10 with court-appointed lawyers. None of the private lawyer cases got the DP. Most of the other 10 did.

I’m pretty sure the Tenth Amendment protects this ruling from any SCOTUS shenanigans. Ironic, the righttwats think the Second and Tenth are the only Amendments worth following.

Old news–though still welcome. Here in Massachusetts the Supreme Judicial Court declared capital punishment unconstitutional decades ago. And the voters upheld it.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. I don’t mind the death penalty…if it was fairly applied. But it isn’t.

“…I don’t mind the death penalty…if it was fairly applied. But it isn’t…”

When I was a kid and years before James Bond I conceived a fantasy of being some sort of secret agent with a license to hunt and kill war criminals. They’re poster boys for the DP.

My late brother in law would be a Trumpian were he still alive. I once tried to 'splain this to him.
He just could not understand. Either you’re for it or against it. “Binary” thought processes of a self-identified “conservative”.

Hate to burst your bubble but I didn’t say it was a binary choice or any of that fantasy talk. It will never be applied fairly, especially with Republicans in existence, so I’ll never end up supporting it. Of that I’m sure.

I don’t have any bubbles. What I was saying was that my late brother in law could not understand any nuance. Right/wrong; for/against; good/bad. That’s how so many self-identified conservatives think. In the best of all worlds the DP would be applied fairly and equitably, but it never has, never will. That’s why I want to see it done away with. And an estimated one in 25 sentenced to death may be not guilty. That’s a national disgrace.

That’s exactly what I believe. I honestly think that we ought to be HARDER on rich people and white collar criminals. Start clipping some of those criminals in corporate America and watch things change for the better.
