Discussion: Warren Criticizes Obama Adminsitration For Being Lax On Corporations

Odd time to write this editorial, isn’t it? Why not when she first came in still in the glow of his having chosen her to create the CFPB? I wonder if she’s trying to goad Clinton into stating her intentions on appointments.

After all, the Republicans always appointed people to run things in favor of all corporations. Remember the dept of Interior employees having sex and doing drugs with the oil company executives they were “regulating”? Where were her and others’ complaints then?

“The failure to adequately punish big corporations or their executives when they break the law undermines the foundations of this great country,” Warren wrote.

The failure to prosecute self-admitted war criminals doesn’t help either. (He wasn’t called Eric “Place” Holder for nothin’.)

“confirmed by the Senate”
seems to be a big road block.

Reading about Warren just reminds me what we won’t get with Clinton. Clinton will make no promise that would cost Wall street a dime. So bend over, America.

Strongly agree. The timing of this can not simply be coincidence.

In related news Johnson Controls just moved their headquarters to Ireland.

Hillary’s response:

Clinton on Monday called inversions “outrageous” and said a proposed “exit tax” would help block deals such as the one between Johnson Controls and Tyco. U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, a Vermont Democrat also seeking the party’s presidential nomination, said the merger “would be a disaster for American taxpayers.”

Seems to be a consensus building here.

“Why now?” is a fair question to ask, but it doesn’t make Warren’s critique any less valid. As much as I think Obama will ultimately be remembered as one of the great presidents, his administration’s record on prosecuting financial skulduggery, and the war crimes of the previous administration, has been pretty weak.

Old news, but still one of the biggest mistakes of Obama’s administration. He needed to channel the anger and confusion of the American people at that time and put some heads on pikes. His failure to do so only fueled the rise of the tea party.

I hope she and Bernie will keep pushing Hillary like this when she’s president.

Will the tax penalty for leaving be higher than it would be for coming home?

“weak enforcement is sometimes a result of limited authority” — AND it also the result of facts which are difficult to try. I would need to know more about the facts than I do, but I do know prosecuting a case is hard, and it’s really easy to forget the difficulties in proving something beyond a reasonable doubt against a very well-armed opponent. And that could well explain the lack of prosecutions. The frustration is only a legitimate criticism where there are cases that could be won which are not brought. And I am not at all sure of that.

You seem to forget he ran saying he would not, long before Holder was in place as AG. Did you think he was kidding?

What’s to keep the cash cow that we intend to use to pay for everything from just leaving the barn?

And another who seems to have forgotten than Obama was very clear during his campaign that he was not going to prosecute or even look at Bush,Cheney at al.

Didn’t forget it. Just still don’t think it was the wisest policy.

Because she’s bitter she wasn’t chosen to lead CFPB. So was the subject of an Atlantic or New Yorker article I read in the recent past.
